store owner who was shot during an
attempted robbery in southeast this
afternoon.
It is 61 year old Robert Kennedy of
Hardy and it appears Kennedy got off a
few shots of his own.

found the clerk shot inside and the

killed by a car in Amherst County says
justice has not been served.
This after the teen accused of
hitting the toddler was found guilty of
improper driving.
Kaylie Silby was convicted for
her part in the death of two-year-old
Omarion Rose, back on January 14th.

In court today, Silby testified
that she was reaching for her cell
phone as she drove up Seminole Drive
that morning.
*CG locator Madison Heights Prosecutors say reaching for the
January 14 phone caused Silby to take her eyes off
the road, and that's when she hit Rose.
Silby says she tried to do the
right thing by calling police when she
realized she may have hit Rose.
A judge ruled that taking your
eyes off the road does not constitute
reckless driving.
He chose an *improper* driving
conviction with a fine of 500 dollars.
Rose's godmother, Catrena, says
she now wants an apology from Silby.

for selling illegal fireworks wasn't
enough to deter two Franklin County
businesses from breaking the law again
this year.
And now police say one of the
businesses owners was making homemade
bombs.

like his death had a big impact on this
being passed."
Jason Saunders died in April of
2007.
The Campbell County deputy
crashed his patrol car chasing a woman
on the run.

Starting Tuesday, if you cause a
death running from law enforcement -
you'll face a class 4 felony, with a
punishment of up to 10 years in prison
and 100-thousand dollar fine.

A small comfort to Saunders.
"No amount of years could bring
back my son, or replace his life, but
it's a start."
Campbell County Sheriff Terry
Gaddy says the law will make it easier
for prosecutors to convict those who
run from the law.
"They had a difficult time
proving the individual, the violator,
caused the death."
A fact that troubled Saunders
when Heather Bush, the woman her son
was chasing, went on trial.
"We worried at first that she
wouldn't get anything, that she would
just get off. But thankfully she did
get seven years."
Saunders says the rules and the
punishment are now clear - and she
hopes the new law will prevent future
deaths, by making criminals think
twice.
"I pray we don't lose another
officer and a mother doesn't lose a
son. But it will happen. And the law
might mean a lot one day."
It already means a lot to her.

A new state law went into effect
lowering the donor age by a year.

announced he sold his franchise
Friendly Lincoln Mercury to Magic City
Ford.

Number 1 golfer flew home after the
procedure and swelling in the knee
caused his doctor to tell Mr. Woods to
stay at home.
That will keep Tiger from
attending the tournament that bears his
name the AT & T national in Washington
D.C. this week at Congressional Country
Club.
But Virginia Tech golfer
Drew Weaver will be in the field.
Last month, Weaver accepted a
sponsor's exemption and an invitation
from Tiger to play in the event.

Cycling enthusiasts have a big
weekend on tap, 3 races are schedule
as part of the Coventry Commonwealth
Games.

And then you had the Tour Dupont
which made a yearly trek thru the city
in the mid 90's.
Those races are gone but
this weekend the Roanoke Cycling
Organization will stage the ID3 races,
Tower.

a climb up Mill Mountain on Saturday
and a criterium in Blacksburg on Sunday
around the campus of Virginia Tech.
It's part of an effort to
bring cycling back to the forefront.

Sprint Cup Series. And while the top
teams in Nascar are finding great
success these days, the lower level
teams are having problems keeping up as
the Economy struggles.
One of those teams is shutting
down. Chip Gannassi is pulling the
plug immediately.

Gannassi has ceased operations on
the 40 car teams driven by Dario
Franchitti because of a lack of
sponsorship.
Franchitti who is in his first
year driving on the Sprint Cup Series
had qualified for just 10 of the 17
races this season, Dario was on the
shelf for a while as well with a broken
ankle.
Franchitti's best finish in those
10 races was a 22nd at Martinsville,
He made the switch to Nascar
after being very successful in the open
wheel ranks. In 2-thousand 7 he won
the Indy Racing league's Championship,
that year included wins at Richmond and
the Indianapolis 5-hundred.
With Franchitti's team out, that
leaves Sabates-Gannassi Racing with 2
Teams in the Cup Series, Juan Pablo
Montoya and Reed Sorenson.
