this morning, alcohol was a factor in a
hit and run accident in Roanoke County.
It happened around 10 o'clock
last night.
Police say a 21-year-old was hit
by a white Jeep Wrangler while walking
in the 4500 block of Fort Lewis Church
Road.
Police found the Jeep a few
blocks from the scene.
The driver, James Reiling, was
arrested and charged with DUI.
The victim was taken to a local
hospital.

Investigators say Stone, the
alleged shooter, had been living in the
woods nearby, but is from Pulaski
County.
Stone reportedly had an ongoing
land dispute with his niece, Alice.

fatally shooting a suspect.

shows officers Brian Davis and Larry
Rigney were justified when they used
deadly force against Brian Long of
Hurt.
It happened on May 12.
Investigators say Long came at
the officers with a shotgun.
Davis and Rigney told Long to
drop his weapon - when he didn't, they
shot him.
The two officers were placed on
administrative leave.
Altavista's police chief says
they are now back on the force.

emergency brain surgery this weekend
after an accident at Smith Mountain
Lake.
Authorities say the boy's father
was on a jet ski dragging his son, who
was knee boarding behind him.
The dad made a wide turn and the
boy crashed into a dock.
The accident happened Saturday
afternoon at Beavers Dam Creek on the
Bedford side of the lake.
At last check, the boy was in
stable condition at Carilion Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.

drowned Saturday in the Staunton River,
near Brookneal.
Conner was taking part in the
annual Fun Float event, where thousands
ride down the river in boats, canoes
and innertubes.
Investigators say Connor was not

encourage everyone to wear a safety
vest on the river, but the liability
rests with the individual.

actually a stromatolite.

This mound of fossilized algae is
the first ever intact stromatolite to
be found in Virginia.
It was found at the Boxley quarry
in Blue Ridge.
The company's donating it to the
Virginia Museum of Natural History in
Martinsville and will be on display in
a few months.

usher in drier and more tranquil
weather from Tuesday through late in
the week. Afternoon highs will range
from low 80s Tuesday, to mid 80s by

approach the region by the Independance
day (Friday) and into the weekend, with
more scattered showers and storms
