the deadly shooting yesterday in
Southeast Roanoke.
Police say Corey Scott
Ramsey was killed. He was 22 and lived
in Roanoke.

Yesterday Afternoon Investigators say Ramsey went
into the Sanco drug store on Riverland
Road just after three o-clock yesterday
and tried to rob it.
The store owner, Robert
Kennedy, pulled out a gun.
The two strugled for the firearm and
it went off. Kennedy was hit first.
He then shot and killed Ramsey.
Robert Kennedy was released
from the hospital last night.

He served three months in

UNITS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, ONE OF OUR
MOTORBIKES CAME IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH
THE TERRORIST, SHOT AND KILLED HIM. But
by then he had left behind a tragic
scene on one of Jerusalem's busiest
streets, killing at least three people
and injuring 45 more. He repeatedly
rammed his bulldozer into this bus
packed with passengers until it flipped
it on its side. Further down the
path...crushed cars, some with
passengers still trapped inside. Three
Palestinian militant groups claimed
responsibility for the attack, but
Israeli police described the attacker
as a "terrorist" acting on his own.
Police say the man was a father of two,
a bulldozer driver working for a local
construction company. Jerusalem has
been quiet for the past few years,
apart from a gun attack in March. That
quiet has now been broken

suicide bombs, but from a deadly weapon

Road in Blacksburg took a turn for the
worst last night - right into a house.

Monoski, Junior of Blacksburg ran off
the side of the road.
His car apparently struck a
street sign and a raised manhole cover,
before crashing into a home.
No one was inside the house, but
damages are estimated at eight-thousand
dollars.
Monoski's car is a total loss.
Police say he was taken to the
hospital for minor injuries.
Investigators are trying to
determine if a medical emergency may
have been a factor in the crash.
No charges have been filed.

GRAPHIC=PGA TIGER'S TOURNEY Tiger Woods had knee surgery this
week in Utah.
He flew home after the procedure
with some swelling in the knee.
That will keep Woods from
attending the tournament that bears his
name, the AT & T national in Washington
D.C. this week at Congressional Country
Club.
But Virginia Tech golfer
Drew Weaver will be in the field.
Last month, Weaver accepted a
sponsor's exemption and an invitation
from Tiger to play in the event.

some noise like he did last summer when
he won the British Amateur.
That win got Weaver into the British
Open and this year's Masters, he missed
the cut in both.
He also teed it up at the Memorial

group that also includes Kevin
Streelman and Brett Rumford.
Johnson Wagner, another former
Hokie, and the winner of the Shell
Houston Open is also in the field.

return to the Roanoke Valley.
Cycling enthusiasts have a big
weekend on tap, 3 races are schedule as
part of the Coventry Commonwealth
Games.

1996 Saturn Festival Cup Cycling has a history in Roanoke
:00 with the Saturn Festival Cup races and
the Tour Dupont, which made a yearly
trek thru the city in the mid 90's.
Those races are gone, but
this weekend the Roanoke Cycling
Organization will stage the I-D-3
races,
*CG locator Roanoke On Friday there is a criterium on
1996 Tour Dupont a 3 quarter mile course on the Roanoke
:13 City market, circling the Wachovia
Tower.
That will be followed up by
a climb up Mill Mountain on Saturday,
and a criterium in Blacksburg on Sunday
around the campus of Virginia Tech.
It's part of an effort to
bring cycling back to the forefront.

Nascar Sprint Cup Series.
And while the top teams in Nascar are
finding great success these days, the
lower level teams are having problems
keeping up as the Economy struggles.
One of those teams is shutting
down.
Chip Gannassi is pulling the plug
immediately.

Gannassi has ceased operations on
the 40 car teams driven by Dario
Franchitti fran-KEE'-tee
because of a lack of sponsorship.
Franchitti, who is in his first
year driving in the Sprint Cup Series,
had qualified for just 10 of the 17
races this season.
Dario was on the shelf for a while,
as well with a broken ankle.
Franchitti's best finish in those
10 races was a 22nd at Martinsville,
He made the switch to Nascar
after being very successful in the open
wheel ranks.
In 2007, he won the Indy Racing
league's Championship, that year
included wins at Richmond and the
Indianapolis 500.
With Franchitti's team out, that
leaves Sabates-Gannassi Racing with 2
Teams in the Cup Series, Juan Pablo
Montoya and Reed Sorenson.
