50 years.
The veteran broadcaster and
journalism professor died today at his
home in Lexington.

the details in the shooting death of a
man at a Halifax County convenience
store last night.

Seamster, Jr. of Pelham, North
Carolina, was shot and killed in front
of the Sheetz in South Boston.

Halifax-South Boston Gang Task Force.
State Police say someone tried
to kill one of the task force officers
- then an officer shot Seamster.
Employees at nearby businesses
call the scene unusual for South
Boston.

Meanwhile, it's back to work for
the Roanoke store owner who shot and
killed a man trying to rob him.
Robert Kennedy re-opened the
Sanco Drug store late this morning.
On Tuesday afternoon, Corey
Ramsey came into the convenience store
to rob it.
Kennedy pulled out his gun.
The two struggled over it.
Kennedy was accidentally shot in
the leg three times....he also shot and
killed Ramsey.
Police are still investigating if
Ramsey was armed.
No word yet on if Kennedy will
face any criminal charges.

The rotary club's annual Fourth
of July Balloon Rally is underway at
V-M-I's parade ground.
This year's event features 12 hot
air balloons... that's slightly down
this year because several vendors chose
to stay home because of the high gas
prices.
The balloon rides last an hour
and cost 175 dollars.
You can catch one tomorrow at six
in the morning, and then again at six
at night, weather permitting.

Hickory Woods Apartments around 4:00,
but they were able to contain the fire
to one building.
The building has 12 apartments,
and at least 16 people have been

There were no injuries to

The cause has not yet been
determined.
The Red Cross is helping the

stand trial for manslaughter, over a
plane crash that killed 113 people in
2000.
An Air France Concorde went down

alive after he lit a cigarette in his
van, and because of a gas leak, it

locality in Virginia with double- digit
unemployment numbers.

percent.
The New River Valley is at four-

Lynchburg's is slightly lower at

Center. Thursday night, look for partly
cloudy skies with lows in the lower
60s. It won't be as comfortable tonight
as the last several nights due to
increasing moisture in the air. On the
weather maps, we've been noticing a
slow moving cold front to our northwest
for several days. Right now, the front
is in the Ohio River Valley creating
showers and storms near Columbus and
Cincinnati. This boundary will move
toward us over the next three days,
increasing rain and thunderstorm
chances across the NEWS7 viewing area.
Friday, skies will be partly sunny. Our
high-definition 4km forecast model
indicates only a slight chance of a
shower or storm on July 4th. Let it be
noted, any storm that may form could be
severe. Highs Friday are forecast in

Navy is putting on a display of their
own.

The Navy Seal Accelerator is a
traveling exhibit where fair-goers can
see what it's like to be in a Navy
Seal.
There's an interactive ropes
course, a museum which features some of
the gear used by the Navy Seals, and
even a tank where visitors can play

The display will be at the fair
through Wednesday at the main entrance.
