OQ=TIM SAUNDERS, NEWS 7, SOUTH BOSTON. << It's business as usual at the
(END SOT) Sheetz on Route 58 in South Boston.

Just last night, this entire business
was blocked off after a man was shot
and killed by police. It's a scene
that attracted a lot of attention in
this busy part of town. Krystal
Wright/Witnessed Shooting Scene: "I was
just going to go over to Sheetz to get
some gas because the gas prices are
going up. And I noticed the whole
Sheetz was blocked off."

Krystal Wright was working at a
restaurant right down the street when
she learned a man had been shot.

"All I saw was a body laying
there and cops everywhere and, just a
body laying there."

State Police say the
Halifax-South Boston Gang Task Force
was doing a drug investigation at the

store.

Police aren't releasing many
details, but they say during the
investigation, someone tried to kill
one of the officers.

That's when Randolph Seamster,
Junior was shot and killed.

The situation had many talking at
the South Boston Farmers Market.

Robert Smart/South Boston
Resident: "It's just unusual. But
anywhere you go nowadays, you gotta be
careful."

The officer involved in this
shooting will be on administrative
leave while state police investigate
this shooting. That's routine in
situations like this. Tim Saunders,

WEATHER MINI OPEN

CK-WXBUG CURRENT CONDITIONS ROUNDUP

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Thursday night, look for
partly cloudy skies with lows in the
lower 60s. It won't be as comfortable
tonight as the last several nights due
to increasing moisture in the air. On
the weather maps, we've been noticing a
slow moving cold front to our northwest
for several days. Right now, the front

is in the Ohio River Valley creating
showers and storms near Columbus and
Cincinnati. This boundary will move
toward us over the next three days,
increasing rain and thunderstorm
chances across the NEWS7 viewing area.
Friday, skies will be partly sunny. Our
high-definition 4km forecast model
indicates only a slight chance of a
shower or storm on July 4th. Let it be
noted, any storm that may form could be
severe. Highs Friday are forecast in
the upper 80s with a southwest breeze.
Mostly cloudy skies with scattered
showers and isolated storms are in the
outlook for late Friday night. Right
now, it looks like most firework
displays across the region should be
rain-free, with most activity Friday
night holding off until around
midnight. Lows in the muggy mid 60s.
The weekend will average about a 50%
chance of showers and storms with
otherwise mostly cloudy skies thanks to
the front meandering across the region.
This doesn't mean it's going to rain
all the time, but it certainly means to
watch the sky, and to be prepared to
duck indoors if storms fire. Highs are

forecast in the lower 80s this weekend
thanks to more cloudiness, but it's
still going to remain rather humid.
Early next week calls for variably
cloudy skies and a 30% chance of
showers and storms with highs in the
mid to upper 80s. For weather anytime

mstevens@wdbj7.com The United States Olympic

Softball Team will be making a stop in
Salem on July 24th before it departs
for the Beijing Games. And tonight we
can tell you that the game at Kiwanis
Field against a team of College
All-Stars is already Sold Out.

The only ways to get tickets at
this point is to already have one or
get on the internet and pay a hefty
price.

Those that do attend will notice
some improvements at Kiwanis Field that
have already been completed, such as
brand new bathrooms replacing the
outdated one behind the first base
stands, as well as a brand new roof on
the clubhouse.

But that is not where the changes
will stop, as the field itself will get
a makeover, but not until just before
the softball game takes place.

mstevens@wdbj7.com American kids grow up knowing the
names of all-star athletes from sports
such as football, basketball and
