only Fortune 500 company has confirmed
it will send approximately 40 jobs to
its new regional office in Minneapolis,
Minnesota.

Back in May, Advance's new C-E-O
Darren Jackson told us the company
would maintain a major presence and
meaningful leadership here, keeping its
Store Support Center in the Roanoke

The jobs that are leaving for
Minnesota are tied to inventory and
merchandising for the "Do It Yourself"
side of the business.
Advance employs about 16 hundred people
in Roanoke.

on his city credit card.

Christopher Russell will look into the
allegations Alfred Dowe put more than
seven thousand dollars of questionable
charges on the card.
An audit documented the spending.
Dowe resigned from the Council after
the allegations were made public. He
has since paid back about six thousand
dollars.
Russell will decide if Dowe should
face criminal charges.

safety officials have imposed the
government's most urgent warning---

the antibiotics can cause tendonitis
and tendon ruptures, a serious injury
that leaves some patients
incapacitated.
The Food and Drug Administration on
Tuesday ordered makers of the drugs
which includes Cipro, Levaquin, and
Floxin to add a 'black box' warning to
their products.
Patients should immediately stop
taking the medications if they develop
any tendon pain, swelling or
inflammation.

According to the filing, the debt
includes almost four million dollars

Vick is serving a 23-month prison
sentence for his role in a dogfighting
ring.
He was suspended indefinitely
without pay and lost all his major

it's upgrading the crash test system.
It'll still be on a five star
scale but the test will now combine
scores from several different test to
create the overall rating.
The new system, will start with
all 20-10 model year vehicles and will
include new front-end and sideways

large children for a more accurate

shot at life.

For decades- the steam locomotive
has sat in the Virginia Scrap Iron yard
off of Jefferson Street in Roanoke.
Two cranes were brought in and
put on each side of the 175-thousand
pound train.
Eventually, the engine was
raised, pivoted and placed on a
trailer.
Even though things didn't really
progress until after lunch- people
gathered at the scrap yard and along
the Jefferson Street bridge from the
mid-morning to get a better view.

It has been an eventful day for
the folks at Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
For starters an internet report
today on the Sporting News website
clamied that the compleny the late Dale
Earnhardt founded was for sale.

January The report stated that company
owner Teresa Earnhardt had commissioned
the investment banking firm of Bear,
Stearns & Co. Inc. to locate a buyer or
financial investment partner for the
racing giant.
But DEI president Max Siegel on
shot down the report today saying DEI
is not for sale.
That may be the case, but there no
doubt that the new trend in NASCAR -
especially in these economic times - is
to collaborate with outside investment
partners to sure up one's finances.
Everyone from Jack Roush to Ray
Evernham to Petty Enterprises has
bought into this new way of racing
life.

the complex once dubbed by Darrell
Waltrip as the Garage-Mahal is up for
sale along its contents, but there is
one thing we do know about DEI and that
is that driver Martin Truex is in
jeopardy of making the Chase for the
Championship after his team was caught
cheating this past week at Daytona.
This afternoon NASCAR docked him
150 points for the infractions.

Truex was 14th in the driver
standings, just 88 points out of 12th,
with eight races remaining until the
12-driver field is set for the Chase
For the Championship, now he is 18th in
the standings and 238 points back with
almost no chance of making up the
difference.
Truex's car failed its initial
inspection last week at Daytona, and
was confiscated.
In addition to taking away the
points, crew chief Kevin Manion and car
chief Gary
Putnam were suspended from the next six
races and placed on probation until the
end of the year.
Manion was also fined $100,000.
The circuit rolls into Chicago
this week with qualifying set for
Thursday night.

Harris has a reputation as a

On Wall Street today, Stock prices
rallied ahead of the closing bell,
as crude oil prices continued to
crumble.
The Dow added 152 points to close at
11,384.

international attention this week with
the annual running of the bulls...

runners suffered minor injuries.
The man who was injuredin the thigh
was treated at a local hospital .
13 people were injured yesterday--
but none seriously.
