merchandising for the "Do It Yourself"
side of the business.
By moving those jobs to
Minneapolis, the home of Best Buy,
Target and other major retailers,
Advance believes it will be able to
attract employees who wouldn't come to
Roanoke.

Buena Vista Commonwealth's
Attorney Christopher Russell will study

Dowe resigned earlier this year.
The city's auditor says Dowe

He has since paid back almost

Increasing the sales tax on

Republicans have said they can't

For decades this locomotive has rotted
away in a scrap yard off of Jefferson
Street.
Early Tuesday morning crews gathered on
the site -only to have to wait 'til
noon for another crane.

Once that arrived -the plan was put
into action.
Cranes were positioned on each side of
the train. Once straps were in place,
the cranes lifted, pivoted and then put
it on a trailer.

The move is bittersweet for some
including Bev Fitzpatrick, director of
the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
While he regrets seeing the engine
leave Roanoke, he's glad it will be
preserved.

Even though the engine is on the

Detective Chris Nielsen was laid to
rest today.

Cemetery was led by the Blue Knights...
police officers astride their
motorcycles.
Grave-side services followed the
funeral at College Lutheran Church
where Nielsen served as a lay pastor.
An overflow crowd honored the
officer who was "an extraordinary, kind
and compassionate man."

Carli Dodd -- a former Virginia
Tech Student -- called 9-1-1 early
Sunday morning after her Carbon
Monoxide detector went off at her
apartment on Garst Mill Road.
Dangerously high levels of carbon
monoxide were found in the building.
Repairs are now underway.
Dodd became familar with the
detectors after several people got sick
during a leak in Blacksburg last year.

Transportation is serching for somone
to take care of a piece of history.

over the New River in Grayson County is
more than 80 years old.
V-DOT officials say it's not very
functional anymore and work on a new
bridge will start in 20-10.
But V-DOT is hoping someone will
maintain and preserve this hisorical
912 foot long iron structure.
They're offering the new owner
267-thousand dollars - the amount it
would take to demolish it.

meteorologist Robin Reed in the
SkyTracker7 Forecast Center. The upper
low that brought numerous storms
Monday, is now moving off to east this
afternoon. While the bulk of the
activity is developing toward eastern
Virginia, we will see a scattering of
storms through the afternoon and
evening. Tonight, much like Monday,
any storms will be slow-movers with
heavy downpours, small hail and strong
winds. Flash flooding is possible in
some of these slow-moving storms.
Remember, NEVER drive through flooded
roadways and use extra caution at
night. Warm, humid air will remain in
place in advance of a cold front set to
arrive late in the week. Look for highs
in the mid 80s, and muggy too! Looks
like the best storm coverage will be
Wednesday afternoon and evening as the
cold front approaches. Some may be
strong to severe. Thursday, the front
passes through leading to another
afternoon of scattered storms. Highs
will reach the mid 80s. Drier northwest
winds will follow the cold front
passage Friday, providing a pleasant
end to the week and into the upcoming
weekend. Along with the temperatures,
dew points will also be low. The end
result? A mainly sunny and comfortable
weekend! It's been nearly a month since
we've had a shower-free weekend across

Waltrip as the Garage-Mahal is up for
sale along its contents, but there is
one thing we do know about DEI and that
is that driver Martin Truex is in
jeopardy of making the Chase for the
Championship after his team was caught
cheating this past week at Daytona.
This afternoon NASCAR docked him
150 points for the infractions.

Truex was 14th in the driver
standings, just 88 points out of 12th,
with eight races remaining until the
12-driver field is set for the Chase
For the Championship, now he is 18th in
the standings and 238 points back with
almost no chance of making up the
difference.
Truex's car failed its initial
inspection last week at Daytona, and
was confiscated.
In addition to taking away the
points, crew chief Kevin Manion and car
chief Gary
Putnam were suspended from the next six
races and placed on probation until the
end of the year.
Manion was also fined $100,000.
The circuit rolls into Chicago
this week with qualifying set for
Thursday night.

this weekend. Coach Bill Pilat has
rolled out the

VO-NAT welcome mat for 125 goaltenders
this week at his annual goalie camp.
This is the 18th year for the camp and
as usual, it's at full capacity, with
youngsters trying to better their
skills between the pipes.
It's a melting pot group this
week, which includes goalies from as
far away as Oregon, California, Idaho,
and even Canada.
