being struck by lightning in Salem
yesterday.


It seems that the headset she was
wearing took the strike instead.

today for former Roanoke County Police
Detective Chris Nielsen.


He worked in uniform for brief
periods, but he spent most of his
22-year career with the county as a
criminal investigator.


He retired just last August.


Apart from his law enforcement
career, Nielsen was also well known for


his work in city schools, 4-H Camp, as
a lay pastor and a biker.


His sister says Chris was always
"on."

in Roanoke...


The company has announced its moving
at least 40 jobs to a new regional
office in Minnesota.

The changes will not affect
employment at local stores, and a
company spokesperson stresses that the

went into effect last week.


As of July-first Virginia residents
can put a freeze on their credit files.


By doing so, the reporting
agencies can't release a credit report


or any other information without the
consumer's authorization.

parking lot in broad daylight catches
the suspect trying to cash her checks.


Police in Martinsville say the


robbery happened in the parking lot at
Liberty Fair Mall.


About two hours later, the victim
was at the bank when she saw the

that's when she called 9-1-1.

system over the Ohio River Valley will
slowly move to our east. This will
provide a weak southwesterly flow of


wind into the area which will keep us
very warm and humid. Our moist and
unstable air mass will stay over the
area through Tuesday. There could be a
few strong to severe storms today with
gusty winds and heavy rain. Steering
winds will be weak, so storms will be
slow movers. Otherwise, skies will be
partly sunny with highs in the mid and
upper 80s. High humidity isn't going
anywhere! Another front nearing the
NEWS7 viewing area late Wednesday will
cause more scattered showers and
