Against a backdrop of rising job

full-blown attack mode....taking just
as much time to run down their

opponent's plan as to build up their

McCain promises to cut taxes for
everyone and slash wasteful spending.
His

OQ=Tim Saunders, News 7, Lynchburg << Lynchburg's Kemper Street station
(END SOT) is one of the few places in our region

where you can still catch a passenger
train.

It arrives early in the morning
and runs from New York to New Orleans.

But some say that's not enough.

Del. Shannon Valentine/(D)
Lynchburg: "We have a very active
business community that needs access to
transportation and economic hubs."

Delegate Shannon Valentine is
joining other local leaders in
supporting a new commuter train
service.

It would start in Lynchburg, with
stops in Charlottesville and Culpepper,
before arriving each day in the
nation's capital.

Bert Dodson/Vice Mayor of
Lynchburg: "People could live here.

They could travel to DC, spend a couple
days, take care of their business."

The next step is funding.
Estimates show it will cost nearly two
million dollars to upgrade these tracks
and make the service possible. That's
money that will have to come from the
state government.

Valentine: "The two million
dollar funding has got to be part of a
total transportation package."

That means rail service will have
to come with funding for roads and
other projects.

And even though the money's
tight, many believe it can happen.

Dodson: "The rails are there.
The cars are available. Hopefully the
General Assembly will take the
opportunity through the transportation
initiatives to make this a reality."

How much would the service cost?

That's still being decided, but a
one-way ticket on the current train
costs about 38 dollars.

Some say, no matter how much
it'll cost, it's still better than
driving.

Valentine: "Congestion, once you

hit 29 and 66, can be a nightmare. A
three and a half hour trip can turn
into a five and a half hour trip."

One reason these leaders want a
new train on the fast track to the Hill
City.

(END SOT) the pictures he's taken.

"These are the temporary shelters
by the side of the road."

The photos show you this trip was
a mission - to save lives in a country,
devastated by one of the world's worst
natural disasters.

Duane Zook: "Often times, these
people are going back to villages where
there is nothing. One village had over

300 people and close to 250 had died."

Zook works for an organization
called Global Aid Network - he's
teaming up with Appomattox County's
Gleaning for the World to get water and
supplies from central Virginia to the
people hit hardest by the cyclone.

"If you look at just the amount
of food we've sent over, it basically
feeds five times the population of the
city of Lynchburg."

"They were just so grateful for
what we were doing."

How grateful? This woman offered
to give Zook one of her children as a
thank you.

"She had them, that's all she
had, she lost everything else and our
team assessed that, they provided her
with some infant formula and some food
and she was just coming back saying
thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Zook also spent time rebuilding
schools - this is a temporary classroom
students are using now.

He says it's just the beginning
of what needs to be done.

"There's still, even six weeks
later, a lot of devastation."

And he'll keep sending supplies
as long as the need is there.

Kimberly, as of July-first
Virginia residents can put a freeze on
their credit files.

By doing so, the reporting
agencies are prohibited from releasing

the credit report or any other
information without the consumer's
authorization.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX - CG2 11301

CG2 11301 To place a freeze, you must send
a request and pay a ten-dollar fee to
each of the three major credit
agencies.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

There's no fee for identity theft
victims who submit a valid police
report with their freeze request.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

When the freeze is in place,
consumers are given a personal
identification number to remove the it.

Keep in mind it may take up to
three business days for the agencies to
lift the freeze.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

We have a link to the three
credit agencies on our website,
WDBJ7.com.

TAKE FS GFX TAKE FS GFX

There is another website to
consider.

Annual Credit Report.com is the
only website where consumers can
receive their credit report for free
each year.

The upshot to placing a freeze on
your credit is that it locks out any
scammers who try to open a new line of
credit in your name through
fraudulently means.

This is just one weapon in
combatting identity theft.

SKY1 << Good morning, I'm meteorologist Leo LEO TOSS STRAIGHT TO COMMERCIAL Hirsbrunner in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. An upper level low pressure COMM system over the Ohio River Valley will
slowly move to our east. This will
provide a weak southwesterly flow of
wind into the area which will keep us
very warm and humid. Our moist and
unstable air mass will stay over the

area through Tuesday. There could be a
few strong to severe storms today with
gusty winds and heavy rain. Steering
winds will be weak, so storms will be
slow movers. Otherwise, skies will be
partly sunny with highs in the mid and
upper 80s. High humidity isn't going
anywhere! Another front nearing the
NEWS7 viewing area late Wednesday will
cause more scattered showers and
storms. Highs around the mid 80s. For
