identify the driver who was burned to
death when his tanker ran off the road
last night on Route 220 near the
Franklin Road exit.

Last Night The fire was so intense it wasn't
completely out until this morning.
The crash happened around 10PM
but it took authorities several hours
to find the driver.
They found him outside of his
semi.
His body burned so badly -
authorities still don't know his name.

was a close call for a motorcylist who
happend to be driving right next to
tanker.

Chris Young says at one point the
driver of the big rig was in the middle
lane trying to eventually move to the
far left.
But police say he lost control
and went down the embankment.

Chris Young might have been last person
to see the driver of the tanker alive.
CHRIS YOUNG/HE WAS WEARING A RED
TRUCKER HAT AND HE WAVED AT ME WHEN I
DROVE BY, HE HAD HIS WINDOW ROLED
DOWN.."
Seconds later.. thick clouds of black
smoke and flames lit up Roanoke's
skyline..
WANITA SANSIL? "JUST A LOUD EXPLOSION,
IT WENT OFF 4 TIMES, THE FLAMES SHOT 12
STORIES HIGH."
The fireball from the explosion could
be seen from several spots around the
valley. Many stood outside for hours,
watching and taking pictures.
Others like Darron Taylor HEARD the
explosion before SEEING it.
DARRON/ I HEARD A BIG LOUD BREAKING
SCREECHING AND THEN A HORN TO FOLLOW.
DARRON/ "SOUNDS LIKE THE PERSON TRIED
TO STOP AND BLOW THE HORN, BUT I GUESS
NOTHING THEY COULD DO."
Young who was feet away from the crash
believes speed was a factor.
CHRIS"/I FIGURED HE COULDN'T GO TO THE
LEFT AND WAS GOING TO FAST, SO HE
LOCKED HIS BRAKES AND WENT RIGHT,
THAT'S WHEN HE WENT OVER THE TURN."
Police are still figuring out what
caused the crash. Meantime, a crane was
back at the scene picking up what was
left of the rig.

man's identity and more details about
what he was carrying.

directions re-opened around eight this
morning - almost 10 hours after the
crash.

accident in Rockbridge County turned
out to be deadly.
Police say Gary Kirshenbaum died
yesterday after running off the road
and hitting several trees on Route 60.
That's about three miles south of
Route 501.
The victim was wearing a helmet.

the driver of a car was not buckled up
when he lost control and ran off the
road.
The victim Roberto Celles-Juarez
died around 11:30 last night after he
crashed near Route 674.
He was 21.

latest casualties in Iraq.
Army specialist William McMillan
the Third died this past Tuesday when a
roadside bomb hit his patrol.
McMillan enlisted in the Army and
was assigned as a medic.
He graduated with the Class of
2008, but left VMI near the end of his
4th Class year.
McMillan was from Lexington,
Kentucky.
Funeral arrangements are pending.

crosses the area from west to east.
Patchy fog may develop. Lows are
forecast in the mid and upper 60s.
Monday begins with a mixture of
sunshine and clouds. We'll generally
see increasing sunshine after noon.
Much cooler Monday with highs only
around 80.
Monday night will be clear and pleasant
with lows near 60. Skies will be mostly
clear.
High pressure means mostly sunny skies
Tuesday though Friday with slowly
moderating temperatures. Enjoy
Tuesday's low humidity, because it will
become more muggy as the week
progresses.
Next weekend calls for highs around 90
with partly sunny skies. Right now,
there's only a slight chance of a few
showers next weekend.
