out what caused the tanker wreck this
weekend.

The WilcoHess tanker was carrying
more than eight thousand gallons of
gasoline when it left the northbound
lanes of US 220 around ten o'clock
Saturday night.

left of the tanker today.
Before it fell down the hill it
broke through about 600 feet of
guardrail.
V-DOT says this accident was the
first crash in at least five years
where someone has died.
But, there have been 14 accidents
since 2003 where serious damage was
involved or someone was hurt.
Still, the Department of
Transportation says 15 accidents is not
a lot when you consider 63 thousand
people travel this stretch every day.
As of now there are no plans to
do any road improvements.
The speed limit will stay at 55.

big was 30 years ago.
*CG locator Roanoke On July 30th, 19-77, a gasoline tanker
July 30, 1977 wrecked while turning from Orange
Avenue onto the ramp going up to
Interstate 581.
The driver of the truck escaped
with burns. No one else was hurt.
Special fire-fighting trucks from
the airport were called in to help
smother the flames.

Richmond to crash his car in Bath
County this evening.
It happened on Route 39 shortly
after six o'clock.
Police say Carlos Mendell DeBrill
the Second was headed East, when he ran
off the right side of the road,
overcorrected, and eventually hit a
tree.
He was pronounced dead at the

A draft plan of rail projects
totaling nearly five- billion dollars
was released by the Virginia Department
of Rail and Public Transportation
tonight.
It includes money to improve
access to a future Roanoke Region
Intermodal facility and additional
tunnel clearances....
That will allow trains to carry
double- stacked containers through the
valley to Ohio.
There's also money for rail and
station improvements to allow more
frequent Amtrak service to Lynchburg
and expanded service to Roanoke and
Bristol.

This morning, officers told
us the wounded man is 31-year-old Avery
Eugene Muse.

Center. Consider this week a reward
for the stormy pattern we've been stuck
in. High pressure will build east
keeping the week dry and progressively
warmer. With low-level moisture from
this weekend's rain, look for patchy
fog in the deeper valleys early Tuesday
morning. With the lower dew points,
look for abundant sunshine with a few
fair-weather clouds each afternoon.
Temperatures will start to climb back
into the upper 80s throughout the week.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK: A few models have a
low pressure system moving out of the
Gulf of Mexico late this week, then
pulling north into our region. The low
would be intercepted by a cold front
Sunday and Monday. If this happened,
the end result would be isolated

So to say the least the Avs don't
want to see their opponents have the
advantage of playing with a current
major leaguer in their lineup.
But that is exactly what they had
to deal with this evening as former
U-V-A standout Ryan Zimmerman began a
rehab stint for the Washington
Nationals.

Nationals as they took on the Avs.
He looked just fine in his first
at bat of the game. Zimmerman wearing
number 25 will rope one to left
centerfield. That Good enough for a
Double but he was stranded on second.
The Avalanche would score their
first run in the bottom of the second.
Roberto Mena would hit a shot to right
centerfield, all the way to the wall.
He would end up on 3rd with a triple,
Cesear Quintero would score to tie the
game at 1.
Zimmerman's next at bat was a
ground out to the shortstop Mena, He
*CG final Potomac would go 2 for 5 on the night, with 2
6 Doubles. But his team the Nationals
Salem lost to the Avs 8 to 6.

Counsil throwing to him a man who he
met as a youngster growing up.
The story even gets better as to
the fact that Hamilton was out of
baseball for a number years and able to
overcome a drug problem and get back to
the Major Leagues. Justin Morneau
would go on to win the Derby, but
Hamilton was the star.

home for a few weeks, before heading
back to Florida for the Yankees

process. And both agree the Yankees
