Saturday Night Roanoke police say the cause of
the crash is still under investigation.
Kantsos' tanker truck
crashed through a guardrail and caught
on fire around 10 o'clock Saturday
night--shutting down 220 for several
hours.
We tried to get more information
about how long Kantsos has been driving
a truck with WilcoHees, but our phone
calls were not returned.

involved in last night's accident is
the same one Norfolk Southern uses to
promote rail safety.
The man was hit by the Operation
Lifesaver train, as it pulled into
Roanoke for an educational trip to
Lynchburg.
That trip still took place today.
News 7's Tim Saunders says the
death is exactly what Norfolk Southern
is trying to prevent.

see.
Like this trestle over the Big
Otter River.
Or the many landscapes of central
Virginia.
It's a privileged view, but one
that sometimes gives them:
Nicky Strock: "A lot of
nightmares."
Nicky Strock is a Norfolk
Southern conductor.
In his 34 years on the rails,
he's seen some deadly collisions.
Strock: "I was involved in a
fatality in 1996. We hit a gentleman
in his pickup truck. Knocked him and
his pickup truck 175 feet before it
actually touched the ground."
That experience led him to join
Operation Lifesaver, a group dedicated
to train safety.
Today they're shuttling everyone
from teachers to lawmakers from Roanoke
to Lynchburg - to show them the risks
people take along the rails.
A special feature of today's trip
is a camera, mounted on the front of
the engine. It gives everyone in the
passenger car a view of what the
conductor sees.

"It allows them to see, from the
engineers perspective, the message of
safety that we attempt to convey."
Riders witnessed dangers like
cars who try to beat the train.
Danny Buck/Norfolk Southern
Engineer: "People play chicken with
you. Pull out in front of you. Standy
by the right-of-way. Stand by the
track."
Armed with first hand knowledge,
Norfolk Southern is hoping passengers
will spread the message that railroads
are no playground.
"Trains are fascinating, but we
have to remember to be safe when we put
ourselves in the train environment."
A message to keep the conductor's
view accident free.

Roanoke County police confirm
they're interested in Jeff Young,
without naming him as a suspect.

in January.
Young has been undergoing
psychiatric evaluation, stemming from
the time he allegedly struck a woman

retrograding low moving from Florida
into the Tennessee valley will offer a

through the weekend. While it won't be
a washout, you may have to dodge a few
showers during your weekend activities.
The lingering low will be intercepted
by a cold front early next week. This
will give us us an improving forecast
Monday, with drier conditions. A few
showers return Tuesday and Wednesday

Carolina Pirates were gobbled up today.
The Noon kick-off at Bank of
America stadium is now a complete
sellout.

Georgia Dome The Hokies announced today they
will open up the 2009 season in the
Georgia Dome in a made for T-V Game
against an opponent that has yet to be
determined.
However, it almost certsainly
will be a team from the SEC and more
than likely it will be Alabama.
Talks are currently being held
with the Crimson Tide.
Tech last played in the Georgia
Dome in the 2006 Chick-Fil-A Bowl
against Georgia.
To make room for this game, the
Hokies have moved their scheduled game
against Cincinnati back to 2-thousand
and 12.

one, it lasted just 2 games, but
suffice to say that while he was here,
the former U-V-A standout dished it out
to his temporary teammates in a couple

leagues on a re-hab assignment, a place
he didn't spend much time on his way to
the big leagues after college, which is
the way he likes it as would most
everyone else not in the Majors

the franchise, whether he likes it or

The longest all-star game in
history lasted just under five hours
and didn't ended after two in the

scoreless in the fifth inning when
former Salem Avalanche slugger Matt
Holliday hit this solo homer to right
field to give the National League stars

Former Ferrum star Billy Wagner
had a chance to help the Nationals seal
this thing in the eighth, but he gave
up a run and allowed the AL stars to
tie the game at 3-all.
