was taken to the hospital for a mental
evaluation after a two-hour standoff at
Mount Moriah Baptist church in Roanoke
yesterday.
Church members found her inside
holding two knives.
A church deacon talked to Bolling
through a window before calling 9-1-1
but she threatened to kill him if he
came any closer.
She was released from the
hospital around 6:30 this afternoon and
immediately arrested.
She's in the Roanoke Jail --
charged with two counts of assault on a
police officer, and one count of
burglary...

your seatbelts...your cab ride might
get pricier.

VO-NAT Yellow Cab is asking City Council
to approve a rate increase of about 16
percent.
The company blames the cost of
fuel, repairs and labor.
A three-mile cab ride that costs
eight dollars and forty cents now,
would go up a dollar forty.
If gas goes higher than five
dollars a gallon, the company would add
another buck to the cost of each trip.
City council will consider the
request on Monday.

could soon have a new owner from
overseas.

January Barr Pharmaceuticals has signed
an agreement to be purchased by Teva
Industries.
The Isreal based company is the
world's largest maker of generic drugs.
They plan to spend more than
seven billion dollars to purchase Barr
and assume the company's debt.
Barr employs 570 people at a
facility in Forest.
In January, the company announced
a 62-million dollar expansion that
would add 220 new jobs.
Barr spokesman Bill Leach says
that expansion will continue as
scheduled.

VO-NAT 11-year-old Wayne Kenneth
Chappell (CHAP-ul) died Thursday at
U-V-A Medical Center.
He was traveling with family on
Route 460 Wednesday when their car was
hit by an S-U-V in front of the Shoppes
of Appomattox.
State police say Chappell was not
wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from
his vehicle.
Chappell was a rising sixth
grader at Appomattox Middle School.

cranes comes crashing down -- killing
four people and injuring many more...

VO-NAT This monstrous crane came down at
a refinery in Houston earlier today.
Workers at the LyondellBasell oil
refinery were doing routine maintenance
when the monstrous crane plunged to
the ground -- taking a out a second
smaller crane on the way down.
The crane belongs to Deep South
Crane and Rigging and wasn't scheduled
for work today, but its engine was on
after it fell.
The company say's it'll
investigate, but first, it's focused on
the victims and their families.

Winds will be calm. This weekend will
be rather warm for the NEWS7 viewing

around Charleston, South Carolina
Saturday to just south of Cape

heading to the beach. Rip currents will
also be possible. But we stress, this
system should remain far enough away to
only provide some clouds, but little/no
rain for Virginia. A cold front from
the west will provide a chance of

hooping tonight as the 19th annual
Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia
celebrated the start of their big
weekend in the Roanoke Valley with
their opening ceremonies.

the Civic Center showing off their
colors in the parade of athletes.
While almost every facility in
the valley will be used this weekend,
more than 2,500 athletes already have
competed in events held prior to this
weekend including
cycling, softball, swimming and figure
skating.
Over 9,000 athletes are expected
to compete in one of the 58 events
that are being offered this year.
Since their inception in 1990, more
than 152,000 athletes have competed in
the Commonwealth Games.
Pete Lampman, Owen Grogan, Tammi
Jewell and Virginia Amateur sports put
the game on each year and tonight's
guest speaker was Ethan Zohn - of
Survivor Fame.

to play at Tech. Wilson rushed for

touchdowns last season. He chose the
Hokies over a host of schools including

Clemson. Wilson is also a track star
for the Eagles, winning the state
triple jump title this past spring.

K.J. Choi has the lead after
shooting a 67 today. He's the only
player under par for the whole tourney
