It was May 27th, 1989, that Paige
shot and killed Debra Salters and
Sylvia Baker and wounded two others in
a Staunton Avenue Apartment.
Though he remained on the run for
18 years, Paige confessed when he was
arrested. His attornies say his remorse
is genuine.

ex-girlfriend a text message, asking
her to meet him at Monacan Park along
the James River in Amherst.
The girl had broken up with
Baumgardner about a month earlier and
was now dating Timothy Wright.

The girl testified that while she
was at the park with Baumgardner,
Wright showed up twice with his friend
Justin Davis.
The first time Wright left
without stopping.
The second time, she says Wright
got out of his car and started pushing
Baumgardner telling him "Leave her
(expletive deleted) alone or I'll kill
you."
The girl says Baumgardner then
left the park.
A short time later, Wright left
with Justin Davis.

Davis is accused of acting as an
accomplice to Baumgardner's murder.
Davis testified that after he and
Wright left Monacan park, they tried to
catch up with Baumgardner on Route 130.

Wright then pulled out a gun and
told Davis to pull up next to
Baumgardner.
Davis says he heard two shots and
watched Baumgardner vear off Route 130.
Davis says he did not call police
because Wright told him "dead witnesses

After Wright was arrested, he met
fellow prisoner Earnest Turner in jail.

one of the most popular courses in
Virginia's public schools.
And, nearly 300 teachers are in
Roanoke this week getting new ideas for
the upcoming school year.
The elective course still touches
on basic skills like sewing and cooking

Football Extra will be kicking off this
month with the first friday night of
games on August 22nd.
The Salem Spartans will not begin
play until the following Friday when
they host Lord Botetourt.
Salem has gone 23 and 2 the past
2 seasons but have not been able to
bring home the State Title.
This year not much will change in
the Spartans game plan, even though
they may not have the size up front
that they have had in the past.

Title.
But Frank Beamer and his staff

For defensive coordinator Bud
Foster one of his security blankets for

Hall and Xavier Adibi at the starting
inside linebacker spots. Those 2

but the lunch-pail defense has no
intentions of letting down with their
