shooting last night in Salem and the
suspect crashed their car after a chase
in Roanoke.

TAKE SHOOTING MAP FULL MAP

Salem police say the
incident started around 8:40 at Salem
Commons Apartments, where officers
found Milton Jermaine Jeffries of
Roanoke shot in the shoulder.

Jeffries told investigators he was
confronted in a parking lot by several
people in another car.

One of those people began shooting
and the car drove off.

Roanoke police officers
spotted the suspect vehicle and chased
it to Fresno Street, where it crashed
into a fence and house.

The people in the car ran, but
officers later caught one person.

Lester is charged with malicious

Police are trying to identify and

Roanoke police say the car also
matches the description of the suspect
vehicle in a shots fired call earlier
Tuesday night.

Solved but not closed, that's the word
from officials looking into the 2001

Anthrax attacks ---eight days after the

FBI's top suspect committed suicide.

Army bio-warfare specialist Bruce Ivins
killed himself, as prosecutors were

getting ready to charge him with five
counts of murder, one for each of the

people who died in the attacks --
seventeen others were sickened.

A judge has unsealed documents --
revealing some information about how
the FBI

closed in on its top suspect.

Officials hope that evidence answers
the many questions that remain about
the

case, and about how the FBI linked
Ivins to the specific batch of Anthrax
used

in the attacks.

(STANDUP BRIDGE: Susan Roberts / CBS

NEWS / WASHINGTON, DC) - "agents here
at

FBI headquarters gave victims and
family members an inside look at the
case

against Ivins. But, skeptics still
have doubts after the seven-year

investigation... Most of which was
spent pointing the finger at the wrong

suspect."

Before focusing on Ivins -- the FBI
said it was investigating one of his

colleagues, Steven Hatfill. He sued
the bureau. That case was settled when

the FBI agreed to pay him almost
6-million dollars.

Ivins' attorney says -- his client
would have been proven innocent if the
case

had gone to trial.

Despite the lingering questions --
family members attending the FBI's
briefing

this morning are hoping for closure.
The son-in-law of one of the victims

said, his family has been suffering for
seven years. And he says -- he's glad

authorities finally found somebody.

The Spartans have been an

The Spartans have to replace most of
their skill positions.

Running backs Jonathan Clemo and
Harrison Hudson departed to graduation,
along with last year's starter at
Quarterback, Nick Leftwich.

That means a whole new group of
Salem stars will have to step up this
season.
