soldier killed in Iraq.

Saturday - when the Department of
Defense says Gibson died in Iraq when
an improvised bomb exploded near his
position.
Gibson joined the Army in March
2002.
He graduated from Christiansburg
High School the year before.

Narrows High School has resigned
following allegations he had sex with a
student.
John Stafford Maddy was arrested
and taken to the New River Valley
Regional Jail today.
He faces charges ranging from
taking indecent liberties with a child
to contributing to the delinquency of a
minor.
During an interview, authorities
say Maddy admitted to having sex with
the female student.

More than a hundred kids in
Bedford are attending "Cop Camp" this
week.
News 7's Tim Saunders shows us
what they're learning.

At most summer camps, they tell
you not to play with fire.
But here, the flames carry a
lesson.
Ofc. Robert Monk/Bedford Police
Department: "What we're trying to do is
build a relationship. A positive
relationship."
By watching their work in action,
Bedford's police department hopes these
kids will have a better opinion of law
enforcement.
Monk: "We want to show them that
they can come and talk to us about
anything. If they have any problems in
their neighborhoods, they can come and
see us."
In the classroom they learn about
fingerprinting and collecting evidence.
Outside, they practice team
building and test their fears on the
ropes course.
"Come'on Chuckie!"
Lt. Jim Bennett/Bedford Police
Department: "Police officers so often
have to deal with the negative aspects.
We want to make a difference."
Cop camp is designed to be
interactive, so the kids are not only
having fun, they're getting a hands on
look at police training, and what they
do on the job every single day.
Bennett: "128 kids will get to
interact with us this week in a
positive way all week long."
At the end of the week, these
kids won't earn a badge, but officers
hope they might pursue one in the
future.
Reporter: Do you think you might
ever become a police officer yourself?
John East/Cop Camp Attendee:
Maybe someday.
Cheyenne Johnson/Cop Camp
Attendee: "After what I learned in the
past two days, I was like I'm really
interested in it, and maybe someday
I'll do some police work too."
So look closely, one of these
faces could soon be protecting the
streets.

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. We're in what's almost like a
fall pattern, with cooler than average
temperatures and low humidity. We'll
begin the transition back to a summer
feel late in the week and the upcoming
weekend. A low pressure system will
move into the Carolinas Wednesday
bringing much-needed rainfall there.
Locally, the best chance of seeing a
shower will be in the southern sections
of Virginia. Even then, amounts will
be limited as most of the rain stays in
North/South Carolina. A second storm
will move into the midwest late this
week pushing a warm front through.
We'll begin to warm temperatures back
to near normal values and pump up the
humidity for the weekend. Rain chances
aren't that impressive. We could
squeeze out a shower Thursday, but
better chances Sunday and Monday as a
front approaches from the west.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, light
breeze. Low: 58 WEDNESDAY: Variably
