drug dealing operation in Nelson
County.
It happened last Thursday in
Lovingston.
Investigators rounded up nearly
two pounds of meth along with
marijuana, guns, and items used to sell
drugs.
35-year-old Charles William
Spencer of Lovingston was arrested.
He's facing three felonies and a
misdemeanor.
The raid comes after a six-month
investigation by the sheriff's office.

affects of a struggling economy...even
our hospitals. .
It's been revealed Carilion has
taken a nearly 40-million dollar hit in
the last six months.

39-point-seven million dollar loss is
mostly on paper.
A spokesman says the loss came to
Carilion's portfolio and is due to
downturns in the market and change in
interest rates.
This comes as the hospital is
converting to a clinic - estimated to
cost anywhere from 100 to 125 million
dollars.

fall pattern, with cooler than average
temperatures and low humidity. We'll
begin the transition back to a summer
feel late in the week and the upcoming
weekend. A low pressure system will
move into the Carolinas Wednesday
bringing much-needed rainfall there.
Locally, the best chance of seeing a
shower will be in the southern sections
of Virginia. Even then, amounts will
be limited as most of the rain stays in
North/South Carolina. A second storm
will move into the midwest late this
week pushing a warm front through.
We'll begin to warm temperatures back
to near normal values and pump up the
humidity for the weekend. Rain chances
aren't that impressive. We could
squeeze out a shower Thursday, but
better chances Sunday and Monday as a
front approaches from the west.

teaching them how to do it.

This demonstration is part of
"Cop Camp."
In addition to explosives, kids
are learning about team building and
testing their fears on a high ropes
course.
They're also spending time in the
classroom, getting a lesson on
fingerprinting and evidence collection.
Bedford's Police Department
organized the week-long event.
They're hoping some of these kids
will consider working in law
enforcement.
But there's another lesson too.

soldier is being honored for his duty
in Iraq.
Sergeant Kenneth B. Gibson died
Saturday when a bomb exploded.

VO-NAT He was based out of Schofield
(SKO-field) Barracks in Hawaii.
We now know, Gibson joined the
Army in March 2002 and graduated from
Christiansburg High School in 2001
where he played baseball and football
years earlier.
There were many tears yesterday
from teachers and administrators who
remembered him fondly as a well-liked
student.

His family in Christiansburg told
News 7 - they're not ready to speak.
There will be a short memorial
service for Gibson at Christiansburg
High School next Friday just before
their first home football game.

Fallen" stopped in Christiansburg to
honor Gibson.
The group of runners has one
mission, to run one mile for every
American service member killed in
Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Each mile is dedicated to a
fallen soldier and marked with an
American flag and personalized sign
card.
Yesterday, runners placed a flag
and sign card in Christiansburg for
Gibson.
The group started their run on
flag day in California and will end at
the Arlington National Cemetery later
this month.

<< Good morning, I'm meteorologist Leo
Hirsbrunner in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. We're in what's almost like a
fall pattern, with cooler than average
temperatures and low humidity. We'll
begin the transition back to a summer
feel late in the week and the upcoming
weekend. A low pressure system will
move into the Carolinas Wednesday
bringing much-needed rainfall there.
Locally, the best chance of seeing a
shower will be in the southern sections
of Virginia. Even then, amounts will
be limited as most of the rain stays in
North/South Carolina. A second storm
will move into the midwest late this
week pushing a warm front through.
We'll begin to warm temperatures back
to near normal values and pump up the
humidity for the weekend. Rain chances
aren't that impressive. We could
squeeze out a shower Thursday, but
better chances Sunday and Monday as a
front approaches from the west.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy, 20% shower
(mainly south). High: 78 WEDNESDAY
