Also yesterday in nearby Rural Retreat, a Pennsylvania woman was killed in a motorcycle accident.
State police say 49-year-old Judy Fay Hoare (Horr-a) was killed when the motorcycle she was riding on was hit by a car on Interstate 81.
Her husband, Edmund, who was driving the motorcycle, is in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Mayor Seward Anderson and councilwoman Shirley Mayhew were the only ones to vote against it.
The measure requires minors to be off the streets after eleven pm on week nights and midnight on weekends.
Violators and their parents are subject to fines and possible jail time.

McDonald's could be a step closer to moving into the Oak Grove Plaza.
The Planning Commission has approved a permit for McDonald's to build a drive- through window there.

Meantime over in Lynchburg, a potential battle over a recycling center was averted when the company withdrew its request for a conditional use permit.

H- B- I had hoped to locate its new recycling facility in this industrial park off Odd Fellows Road.
But nearby residents and businesses objected, claiming the operation would create noise, traffic and pollution problems.
The two sides were scheduled to meet last night to try to reach a compromise.
That meeting was cancelled after H-B-I withdrew its request for a special permit.

The focal point of the activities: The unveiling of a portrait in memory of long-time Mornin Show host Irv Sharp.
Artist Eric Fitzpatrick and Irv's widow, Mary Lee Sharp did the honors before a crowd of family, friends, and W-D-B-J employees, past and present.
After the portrait's unveiling, General Manager Bob Lee was presented with the station's 40th Anniversary Quilt.
Lee says the celebration was a good time to remember Cousin Irv's contributions to Roanoke television.
