State agriculture experts note that peanuts and cotton, and some other
crops, could be damaged and the harvest delayed by all of this moisture.
In Galax and Grayson County, flash flood WARNINGS were posted this morning.
Residents braced for the worst as the strong winds and heavy rains came
But thankfully, there was little damage other than that caused by some small
streams that jumped their banks.
Several roads were closed until the high water receded, and at noon the
flood warnings were lifted.
Some residents living along the New River will still be keeping a watchful
eye through tonight, however, as runoff from the mountains and streams
continues pouring into the river.
