The tremor toppled a seven-story hotel in a southern coastal resort.

There reportedly were at least 30 registered guests, and 27 employees working there.
The U-S Geological Survey says the quake had a reading of seven- point- six.

A head-on collision in Franklin County this afternoon left two men with serious injuries.

Police say the car driven by 49-year old Navie (NAVY) Young was traveling north bound on Route 919 when it crossed the centerline and struck a pick up truck head-on.
Authorities say the driver of the truck, Connie Janney of Ferrum, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Young was taken by Lifeguard 10 to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he's now listed in critical condition.

Police are still searching for the man who abducted an 86- year- old Roanoke woman.
The woman was taken from the parking lot at Towers Mall this weekend.
Police say she was walking to her car when a man with a gun forced her onto the floor of her car then drove away.
Police say the man stopped in Amherst County, tied the woman up and left her in the woods.

Tiki Barber rushed for a season low 65 yards. His limited output could be attributed to Carolina's domination at the line of scrimmage. A fact that has UVa's defensive secondary on the offensive.

The owner of a capsized canoe isn't very happy tonight, but authorities in Montgomery and Pulaski Counties are no doubt relieved their mystery is solved.

The canoe was found floating upside down this morning at the Peppers Ferry crossing on the New River.
Rescuers brought it ashore, but had no way of knowing who it belonged to or whether the person who was in it made it to safety.
Upon seeing our story on News-7 at Five, the owner recognized the canoe and called the game warden.
It seems his friends borrowed the craft over the weekend and failed to tell him they had capsized it and left it in the river.

Columbus Day tourists got a look at the White House's new bike patrols.

Each mountain bike costs 24-hundred dollars, has 24 gears and a mid-frame shock absorber for off-roading.
The officers patrol a three block radius around the White House, but first had to undergo a week of training on their new wheels.
The Secret Service says the new method of patrol is not in response to terrorist activity, but employed as a means of enhancing maneuverability and accessibility around the White House. (----------------)
