As we reported on News 7 at Five, the canoe was floating upside down at the Peppers Ferry crossing between Montgomery and Pulaski Counties.
Rescuers were concerned because they had no way of knowing who the craft belonged to or whether the person at the helm made it to safety.
But upon seeing the news story, the owner recognized the canoe and called the game warden to claim it.
Apparently some of his friends had borrowed it over the weekend, and failed to tell him they had capsized it and left it in the river.

A 48- year- old Ivanhoe man is in custody for allegedly threatening to kill his family, himself AND Wythe County Sheriff Wayne Pike.
Police say when they arrived at the home of Carlie Pearman (PEER-man) last night, he was on his porch waving a pistol.
After a two- hour standoff, Wythe County's tactical response team used a device that emits a piercing noise and bright light to distract Pearman, then entered his home and arrested him.
Pearman is diabetic. Authorities now believe his behavior was insulin- related.

Roanoke Police say they arrested five Vietnamese men yesterday for allegedly beating another man with baseball bats.
It happened around nine p.m. in the eleven-hundred block of Chapman Avenue.
25- year- old Hoang Den Phan (HOE-ANG DEN FAN) told police he was at home when the men forced their way in.
Phan says one of the men was also armed with a sawed- off shotgun.
Police say the attackers were between the ages of 16 and 19.
Authorities found Phan lying on his bedroom floor suffering from a variety of injuries.
Phan told police he fought one of the men last week.
Phan was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and released.

A collision with a police car sent a Roanoke man to the hospital over the weekend.
Police say it happened around 2:30 Saturday morning.
They say officer D.L. Rosser was heading west on Orange Avenue when an oncoming car turned left in front of him.
After colliding with the police car, the other vehicle slammed into a utility pole.
35- year- old James W. Drewry was hospitalized in satisfactory condition.
The officer was not injured.
Police are still investigating.
