A bomb exploded in a crowded Paris subway train during rush hour this
morning...severing the feet of some victims and injuring at least 28
The blast tore through the train...as it travelled beneath the heart of
France has been rocked by a wave of terrorist bombings since midsummer when
a bomb exploded in a crowded subway car in Paris.
Today's blast brings the injury toll to more than 150.

Stateside, trains could be moving again today on the stretch of track
sabotaged last week by alleged anti-government terrorists in southwest Arizona.
A Los Angeles bound train derailed on the tracks killing one person and
injuring close to 80.
An Amtrak train leaving Miami today is expected to be the first passenger
train to use the repaired track.
A letter, signed "Sons of Gestapo," claimed the sabotoge was in retribution
for the federal seiges at Waco and Ruby Ridge.

In Korea today, troops are on heightened alert after South Korean soldiers
shot and killed a North Korean agent as he tried to swim across the border.
It happened along a corridor the communist North used to invade South Korea
in 19-50, starting a three-year war.
South Korea's president says it is further proof that the North has NOT
Officials say they are searching for more intruders.

About a dozen people from far southwest Virginia made the trip to Roanoke
County for an informational picket.
Members of the United Mine Workers of America local 9-1-2-7 demonstrated
outside the headquarters of H-C-M-F this morning, handing out leaflets.
They are among the 85-plus workers at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big
H-C-M-F owns 17 Heritage Hall facilities across the state.
The workers showed up on H-C-M-F to voice their displeasure with the slow
pace of their contract talks.

A major supermarket chain that plans to deliver up to 150 NEW jobs to
Danville is getting a warmer reception.

Hannaford Brothers is a Fortune 500- company that's making its mark in
Virginia and North Carolina.
The company recently acquired nine grocery stores in the Richmond area.
Hannaford is perhaps best known for high quality seafood, meats and
produce-- that's often purchased from local farmers.
Hannaford began as a fruit and vegetable shop in Portland, Maine back in
1883. Today the company has grown to include at least 118- stores along the

And more jobs are in store for Wythe County, now that a plastic film maker
is moving ahead with plans to more than double its work force.

Klockner Pentaplast is building an addition at its Rural Retreat plant.
Construction should begin sometime next year.
The company expects to hire up to 100 new workers over the next several
Klockner had hoped to start on the addition months ago, but only recently
reached an agreement with Wythe County on tool and machinery taxes.
The county lowered the rate so Klockner will not pay a dis-proportionate
share once it brings in 20 million dollars of new machinery and equipment.
