Friends and family are coping with the loss of a six- year old Halifax
County girl- She was ACCIDENTALLY shot and KILLED Tuesday by a relative.
Police say Bridget Short's 85- year old great- grandfather apparently
thought the little girl was INSIDE when he fired at a stray dog in his yard.
Authorities say Bridget was shot once in the chest as she rounded a corner.
The little girl was a first grader at Virgilina Elementary school.

Two construction workers in Clearwater Florida survived the toppling of
their bucket truck as they dangled 90 feet above the ground.
The two injured workers climbed on to steel girders while fire rescue crews
launched a quick, and brave effort to bring them to safety.
The truck stayed on its side, hinged at the edge of the New Bridge,
dangerously dangling over the old bridge.
Both men suffered only minor injuries.
Officials suspect hydraulic or mechanical failure caused the truck to flip.

Earlier in the evening V- DOT officials did try to answer questions about
the roadway in a less formal gathering.
That was met by protestors from the Sierra Club.
The Smart Highway would be a six- mile stretch, connecting a 460 bypass in
Blacksburg to Interstate 81 in Roanoke.
The first two miles would be used to test hi-tech vehicles.
The state has already pledged 10- million dollars for that specific portion,
but officials estimate the cost at 27- million dollars.
They say it will be worth every penny.

teenage daughters leave him.
He first said he wanted to be executed, but changed his mind several times

suburb.

But 23- year old Brett Matthew Wisneski testified yesterday he wrapped
Spencer's body in trash bags and dumped it in Wythe County last May.
Henrico prosecutors say the murder was related to a drug debt.

In it, Wisneski says he beat Spencer to death with a baseball bat, after
planning the murder for two weeks.

A 15-year-old is dead following a single vehicle accident last night.
Police say Patrick Johnson of Richlands was killed when the car he was
riding in crashed into a tree.
It happened on Route 631 in Tazewell County at about nine last night.
Police say the driver of the car lost control while trying to round a curve.

Halifax County is mourning the loss of a little girl who was ACCIDENTALLY
shot and KILLED Tuesday by her great- grandfather.
Six-year-old Bridget Shortt was a first grader at Virgilina Elementary
school.

Burton says the situation got out of hand-- but there haven't been any
similar occurences since then.
A new state law requires school officials to suspend students for 10 days if
they bring weapons on campus.
