20-year-old Robert Lee Matheson of Danville was killed yesterday evening in front of the Ironto Rest Area.
It happened when the vehicle driven by 23-year-old Keith Wallace of Roanoke crossed the median and hit Matheson's vehicle.
Matheson died at the scene.
Wallace suffered only minor injuries.
Police are still investigating.

They came to say good bye.
Alesha Johnson had just recently turned 21.
And police say last Thursday, Johnson was shot by her former boyfriend 26-year old Larry Mack.

Family members say Mack had been staking out their apartment for weeks.
And shortly before her death Johnson filed stalking charges against him.
The stalking law went on the books in 1992.

If convicted it's a class two misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of six months in jail. Bettina Altizer says maybe using computers to improve communication between the different divisions of the court system will help prevent cases similar to Johnson's.
Alesha Johnson's family says they'll do what ever it takes to help other families avoid losing a loved one.
They says they want Alesha to be more than just a statistic.

Eight solar panels on the roof capture sunlight.
The panels then heat plumbing pipes, which carry water down to the basement of the house.
The hot water is stored here in this bin.
But Hanson is not completely dependent on the sun.
He uses electricity to light up his house, and it's the only way to charge up his electric car.
It takes six to eight hours to fully charge the vehicle, enabling it to go from his home near Fincastle to his job in Roanoke.
He says it's much cheaper to maintain than a conventional car.

20-year-old Robert Lee Matheson of Danville was killed at about five p-m in front of the Ironto Rest Area.
It happened when the vehicle driven by 23-year-old Keith Wallace of Roanoke crossed the median and hit Matheson's vehicle.
Matheson died at the scene.
Wallace suffered only minor injuries.
Police are still investigating.

Also yesterday, a nine-year-old boy was killed in an accident in Charlotte County.
Travis Matthew Byron died after he was struck by a station wagon on route 3-60.

And a four-year-old boy DIED after an all-terrain vehicle on which he was riding rolled into the path of a pickup truck in Giles County.
State police say Brandon Mulford died Saturday.
Brandon and a teen-ager were riding Thursday on a grassy patch in a trailer park where the younger boy lived, when the older boy fell off the vehicle.
Brandon remained on the vehicle, which then rolled onto Route 4-60 and was struck by the westbound pickup.

Roanoke Boulevard in Salem is open again, after an accident there knocked down power lines.

A 17-year-old male was driving eastbound when he hit a guide wire on an electrical pole last night.
The force of the impact caused the electrical wires to topple onto the roadway.
The juvenile sustained minor injuries.
The road was closed for several hours between Hemlock and Route 4-19 while crews cleaned up the scene.

The death of former W-D-B-J anchor Rick Mosher stunned and saddened his old friends and colleagues here at the station.
We've recieved lots of calls from viewers who liked and respected Rick's work.

((From Iron Gate, a viewer wrote that she "was stunned at the news of Rick Mosher's passing away. I am so sorry. I really enjoyed Rick on WDBJ. It seems like every time I get used to and really like one of your employees, they go somewhere else. I think a lot of all the newspeople you have on WDBJ, much more so than any other channel. I hope all your people know that."
A viewer from Altavista said "It does please me to know that he was a talented writer and broadcaster and to know that he was held in high regard by his former colleagues...I know I will miss the lost chance, as remote as it would have been, to know Rick Mosher as a friend. I hope all of you treasure the opportunities you had to know him."
On a different topic, a viewer from Christiansburg wrote to says thanks for broadcasting "the races at New River Valley Speedway. I am not able to go to the races and it is really nice of you all to put them on TV. I think Friday Football Extra is the best local TV show anywhere and your station is really our hometown station."
And a football fan from Rural Retreat said "I write on behalf of many people here in Rural Retreat who were very pleased to see our football team highlighted on the past two Friday Football Extras. Since we are about halfway between Roanoke and Bristol, it seems we sometimes get left out of coverage.
