Citizens echoed the same arguments for and against a new McDonalds drive-
thru restaurant at Oak Grove Plaza.
Opponents named increased traffic and safety hazards at the top of their
list of grievances.
But McDonalds promises to construct the drive- thru within the building,
and to put up a caution sign and railing for pedestrians-- helped win approval
by the county board of supervisors.
Local McDonalds owner Mike Grimm says he's excited about building the new
restaurant-- which will include a playground for children.
As for doubters, Grimm says he plans to prove that McDonalds is a good

The problems seem never-ending for residents at Roanoke's Justice House.
And now it looks as if those problems won't be solved.
Disputes over ownership and management have taken the spotlight in recent
But now the low- income apartment building has NO light at all--and for a
couple of hours today it even went without water--
Who's responsible for the dry taps? The city's water department says it's
the founder of Justice House-- David Hayden.

The loss of power came as no surprise to residents here.
But they certainly weren't expecting the water to be shut off.
For two hours it was-- and water officials point the finger at the Hayden
David Hayden founded Justice House five years ago and his wife was listed as
the person responsible for paying the water bills.
Hayden told News 7 he DID have his wife's name taken off the account, but he
didn't know that meant the water supply would dry up.
Right now Justice House residents aren't concerned with who is responsible
for the bills.
And they're not concerned about questions surrounding ownership or

Authorities are evacuating more people tonight from the area of a toxic
chemical leak in Louisiana.
The evacuation is taking place before workers flood the ruptured tanker

15 thousand residents living around the plant were forced out of their
homes for a second day today- No word on when they can returned.
Two missing boys are back with their parents.
The man accused of kidnapping them is in custody.
11 year old A-din and 3 year old A-lee-azar were taken ten days ago from
a Michigan convenience store.

A grand jury is expected to consider the charges against her and Cole in
A Roanoke used car dealer is charged with food stamp fraud.
Joseph Spangler sold a couple of cars at his "Sport Motors" car lot on
Melrose Avenue, allegedly accepting food stamps as partial payment.
The buyers were undercover federal agents.
Salesmen who were there this morning said Spangler was not around and they
did not know when he'd be back.
It's a felony-- punishable by up to 25 years in prison and a huge fine- -to
accept food stamps for anything other than groceries.

The same book deals that led to the downfall of former House Speaker Jim
Wright are now plaguing current Speaker Newt Gingrich.
A House Ethics committee is looking into bulk sales of Gingrich's book for
possible conflict of interest problems.
Five conservative groups, including Liberty University, bought large
quantities of the book in recent months.
Gingrich spoke at Liberty two weeks ago, and autographed 100 copies of "To
Renew America" while he was there.
Reverend Jerry Falwell says the books were handed out as gifts to board
members and friends of the school.
Gingrich says all of the purchases are perfectly legal.
In 1989, he helped force Jim Wright out of office after it was discovered
Wright was using bulk sales of his book to skirt limits on speaking fees.
The human skeleton holds many secrets, secrets which sometimes are the
clues to solving a murder.
One man knows how to pull those clues from a skeleton, in fact he has done
it for many prominent cases, including Jeffrey Dahmer and the Branch Davidians.
Doug Owsley is a forensic anthropologist, who actually helped identify the
body of David Koresch.
He studies the bones of murder victims to determine sex, age, date and

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed former Pro Bowl running back Barry Foster
to a free agent contract.

Rugby returns to the valley this weekend. The Virginia State Rugby
Championship Tournament, known as the Ed and Sandy Lee Cup, will be at Green
Hill Park for two days of competition.

all across Virginia will compete in three divisions; Mens club, collegiate mens

No doubt about it, intense sunlight is a no-no for your newborn.
But a couple from the Winchester area has come up with a simple invention
designed to block the sun's rays from any angle and in any direction.
They call it the Infant Shade.
Michael and Margo (Ga-RAND) Garrand say it works not only in a child's
carseat, but also in a stroller too.

Since the spring the Garrands have sold about 300 Infant Shades, mostly at
the WalMart near their hometown.
The Infant shades cost about five-dollars each.
The couple says while their product has proven popular, it hasn't been easy
selling to larger chains.
Today the Garrands were in Roanoke to bring their product to the Babies and
Children store, which will sell the item at its four locations.
