Police in Henry County are still investigating the murder of a Martinsville
The body of 15-year old Lavina Scales was found on Route 679 yesterday.

gunned down on a remote road in Henry County Wednesday night.
Scales was last seen by her family Monday afternoon.
They say she is a loving teenager who will be missed.

Investigators say a malfunctioning traffic light may be blame in
yesterday's deadly train-bus accident.

The train hit a school bus that was on the tracks- in an Illinois
Transportation officials say testing done today indicates the lighting
system did NOT work properly.
Sensors in the crossing would normally turn the light green to allow
vehicles to clear the tracks when a train is coming.
Some eyewitnesses say the light was red.
And that may not be the only problem at the crossing.

Though he was ordered to serve 16 months in a federal prison, Hoffman will

Christiansburg police say someone is using the name of an officer killed in

Griffith was shot while trying to apprehend a shoplifter last year.

A Pittsylvania County woman is fulfilling a promise made to her dying
brother by educating students about AIDS.
Nancy Hook's only brother, John, died in 1993 after he contracted AIDS from
Hook speaks to students enrolled in the county's Family Life Curriculum.
Today she spoke at Gretna Middle School.
Hook talks about how you can contract the disease, but more importantly she
shares photos that show the toll AIDS takes on a body.
John worked as a waiter before he died.
When he passed away, he weighed just 45- pounds.

People say your garbage says a lot about who you are.
But what if your garbage could make you rich?
Craig Randall of Peabody, Massachusetts found out it could.
He found a Wendy's Restaurant contest cup in a trash can and realized it
was worth 200 thousand dollars.
The garbage truck driver had sifted through the rubbish and won a chicken
sandwich from the contest earlier, but on a second try he never dreamed he
would win the grand prize. Randall and his fiancee are planning to buy a
new home with their winnings.
