Snowshoe Silvercreek is the county's largest employer with around a thousand
workers.

three to four hundred people at a time. Now it employs no one.

Lynchburg residents are beginning to see the signs that 440 new jobs are
coming to the Ericsson plant there.
This week local leaders dedicated the new road which will ease congestion
once the 35-million-dollar expansion takes place.
Meanwhile the expansion by the Bacova Guild in Alleghany County is right on
schedule.
The new home furnishings factory that will employ about 400 people is
expected to be complete by February.
ETS of Roanoke says it posted a LOSS for the first quarter of its new fiscal
year.
The environmental testing company says it was due to a gap between the
completion of some contracts and the start up of some newly awarded ones.
Norfolk Southern though, reports the best quarterly profits in its history.
The transportation giant's net income for the third quarter was a whopping
184-million-dollars.
And federal officials put their stamp of approval on the proposed merger
between First Union and the First Fidelity bank of New Jersey.
The deal creating the nation's sixth largest bank should be completed by
January.
Checking the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the week, it dropped 53
points, closing at 4741.75.

Last night's temperatures dipped into the 20s allowing the resort to
commence snowmaking for this year's ski season.
Snowshoe has the largest snowmaking system in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic
regions.
Weather permitting, it's able to produce 15- hundred tons of snow per hour.
The projected opening date is November 17th.

lead early in the race.
Michael Waltrip blew a left rear tire and hit the wall bringing out the

Ernie Irvan made a move and he was strong taking the lead and holding off
Earnhardt for several circuits around the track.
Points leader Jeff Gordon was running with Dale Jarrett back in the pack
but he was having handling problems as he tried to move up front.
