Police are on a manhunt in the Campbell County area.
Police say 32-year old Brad McCombie allegedly opened fire on deputies
tonight.
He is white, five foot nine, 145 pounds wearing a blue green shirt.
He is said to be armed and dangerous.
Tonight they're advising people in the Timberlake area not to open their
door to anyone they don't know.

A manhunt is underway in Campbell County at this hour.
Police say they are looking for 31 year old Brad McCombie, a suspect they say
is armed and dangerous.
They say McCombie is wanted for several felonies in the Campbell County area
including an armed robbery and attempted murder of a police officer tonight.

It all started around 8:15 this evening when McCombie allegedly robbed the
Buzz Mini Market on Waterlick Road.
It was there he allegedly fired several shots at a Campbell County deputy
who tried to apprehend him.
Police have spent the last two and a half hours searching for McCombie in
the Timberlake Road-Rainforest Drive area of Campbell County.

(( Christopher Shawn Wheeler has been held at the Christiansburg Juvenile
Detention Center since allegedly shooting Deputy Cliff Dicker in the head last
December.
His attorneys argued the juvenile system is where he should stay.
Defense psychologists testified Wheeler is a product of a chaotic
environment in which family members introduced him to drugs, alcohol, guns and
sex by age 11.
His lawyers say he deserves a shot at rehabilitation through the therapy,
education and structure juvenile detention can provide.

((Separatists in Quebec, Canada's largest province wanted, in effect, to become
their own country. The great majority of independence seekers are
French-speaking, and claim the rest of Canada is abandoning French culture in
society. In general they felt they would be better off socially and
economically managing themselves. Quebec's premier, Jacques Parizeau, rallied
hard for separation, and last night in his losing speech, he shocked Canadians
by blaming non-French immigrants and big business for the loss. Today he
apologized for those remarks, then delivered an even bigger blow by resigning,
saying he planned to do so all along if the secession vote failed.
So now, it's unclear now who will lead Quebec province. The new leader may call
for a new secession vote. Canada's prime minister, Jean Chretien, had invited
Parizeau to discuss the reforms Quebeckers want. Chretian met with Liberal
party colleagues, to assess the impact of the vote. Political analysts say the
narrow victory hurts the prime minister.
And in downtown Montreal, the politics coincided with some street fighting
between the two camps. Police said there were several injuries and 40 arrests,
and a fire was set at the office of the federalist leader.

((Virginia Tech's defense is now ranked #1 in the country against the run
and 9th overall. West Virginia gained only 15 yards on the ground in Hokies 27
to nothing domination. However, Tech is hardly banking on a Syracuse shutout.
The Orangemen are averaging a Big East leading 29 points per game.

The stakes for this weekend's game are higher for other reasons as well.
Saturday's game marks the final appearance in Lane Stadium for 17 Hokie
seniors, an last years 28 to 20 loss has been hard to forget.

LAST ONE IN THE BIG HOUSE ON THE FIELD AT LAND STADIUM, AND THE UNDERCLASSMEN
ARE GOING TO WANT TO SEND US OUT WITH A WIN.
One motivation for both teams is that officials from the Sugar, Gator and
Carquest bowls are going to be here at Lane Stadium Saturday. But the most
immediate incentive, is taking another step towards the conference
championship.
I TOLD OUR PLAYERS- LETS CONCENTRATE ON SYRACUSE, AND IF WE DO A GREAT JOB
PREPARING AND FOCUSING AND PLAYING, THEN ALL OF THOSE OTHER THINGS WILL TAKE
CARE OF THEMSELVES. I THINK THERE ARE A LOT OF POSSIBILITIES RIGHT NOW, AND
THE ONE THING I CAN SAY RIGHT NOW IS THAT I FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE THAT THE
HOKIES ARE GOING TO BE IN A BOWL
If the Hokies beat Syracuse they will take iver the top spot in the Big
East with only conference doormat Temple left on the schedule. In essence, a
victory over the Orangemen and Tech all but wraps-up the Big East championship.
