Halloween night and the morning after were rough for the victims of a Campbell County man.
31- year old Bradly Todd McCombie died this morning in a Richmond suburb, after exchanging a flurry of bullets with a police officer.

And with him, a Lynchburg store clerk from what police say was the second convenience store armed robbery of the night.

The clerk, Michael Dorsey, was let go near Richmond's city limits.
He tipped off Henrico police -- who quickly found the car, and a very dangerous McCombie.

(( A short car chase that ended in a collision.
Then, according to Henrico police, gunfire from inside the car McCombie was driving.
The first shot that hit its target knocked Officer Andi Margiotta to the ground.
But the shot to the chest did NOT pierce Margiotta's bullet proof vest.
Before the gun battle was over, the officer had been shot twice, but had unloaded two seven bullet clips in McCombe's direction.
The next officers on the scene found a wounded comrade and the already dead body of Brad McCombie in a nearby ditch.
Henrico's prosecutor will look into the officer's conduct.

Police aren't sure why the clerk, 22- year- old Michael Dorsey, was later released unharmed.

Authorities say Helms shot Scales eight times in the head on Route 6-79 last week, firing two semi-automatic handguns until both were emptied.

On the national front, President Clinton will have a tough time winning Virginia in the 1996 election.
That's according to the latest News-7 - Roanoke Times Poll from Mason-Dixon Research.

Statewide, 39-percent of the people in the survey have a favorable opinion of Clinton, down from 42-percent.
41-percent have an unfavorable opinion, up from 36-percent.
Bob Dole remains the most popular Republican among the announced candidates.
43-percent of Virginia G-O-P voters back him.
That's more than double the amount of his closest competitor.
Head to head, Dole currently has a 46-to-39-percent lead over the President.
But throw Colin Powell into the mix, and it gets interesting.
One on one, Powell beats Clinton 49-to-32-percent.
But if Powell runs as an independent, Dole wins with 33-percent of the vote.
Clinton gets 26-percent, Powell draws 25-percent, with 16-percent undecided.
