A Lynchburg convenience store clerk is telling his story following a night of horror at the hands of a cocaine crazed gunman.
Brad McCombie kidnapped Bret Dorsey early yesterday morning after robbing his store, and another one in Campbell County.

(( For 10 hours, Brad McCombie was a fugitive on the run.
His alleged crime spree started Tuesday with the armed robbery of the Buzz- Inn Market on Waterlick Road.
Police say McCombie then shot at a Campbell County deputy who tried to apprehend him after the robbery.
After fleeing on foot, police say McCombie then showed up at this Campbell Avenue store.
But this time, it didn't stop with an armed robbery. ((BRET DORSEY: HE TOLD ME IN THE STORE THAT IF I COOPERATE WITH HIM, HE'D LET ME GO AND I WOULDN'T GET HURT. ))
McCombie then abducted Dorsey at gunpoint-- and forced him on a three- hour getaway ride. ((BRET DORSEY: HE TOLD ME-- HE SAID I JUST GOT INTO A SITUATION I CAN'T GET OUT OF AND I GOT TO GET OUT OF TOWN. HE SAID I'M SORRY I GOT TO USE YOU TO DO IT, AND GOT TO COME TAKE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR CAR, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE.))
Dorsey says during the harrowing road trip-- McCombie bought and smoked crack cocaine.
He says McCombie also forced him to get forty- dollars out of an automated teller machine.
Once the pair made it to Henrico County, McCombie let Dorsey out of the car. ((BRET DORSEY: AND THEN HE GRABBED HIS RAINCOAT. HE HANDED ME HIS RAINCOAT AND SAID, "HERE, PUT THIS ON. I DON'T WANT YOU TO GET WET. ))
Dorsey then ran for about three miles, until he found a telephone and called the police.

A short car chase ended in a collision.
Police say gunfire came from inside the car McCombie was driving.
Officer Andi (MAR-gee-OT-ah) Margiotta was shot twice.
The officer fired back at McCombie.
The next officers on the scene found a wounded comrade and Brad McCombie, dead from the gunshots.
Officer (Mar-gee-ot-ah) Margiotta is expected to make a full recovery. Police credit his bullet proof vest for saving his life.
Henrico's prosecutor will look into the officer's conduct.
Police expect him to be cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.

The LATEST News-7 - Roanoke Times Poll from Mason-Dixon Research says statewide, 39-percent of the people in the survey have a FAVORABLE opinion of Clinton, DOWN from 42-percent.
41-percent have an UNfavorable opinion, UP from 36-percent.
If Colin Powell DOES NOT enter the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Bob Dole IS the runaway favorite in Virginia, easily outdistancing his competitors.
Head to head, Dole currently has a 46-to-39-percent LEAD over President Clinton.
But one on one, Powell would do even BETTER in Virginia, beating Clinton 49-to-32-percent.
If Powell runs as an independent, Dole wins with 33-percent of the vote.
Clinton gets 26-percent, Powell draws 25-percent.

Some Roanoke head-start parents are considering a class action lawsuit against the state.
They claim changes in the way the state handles the federal funds for head start is forcing them to take their children out of the program.

The changes began in October when the Department of Social Services took over administration of Federal Head Start funds.
It also made twenty families ineligible for the program.
Those remaining in the program are now required to pay ten percent of their family income.
But the Director of the Council on Child Day care says the state has actually increased funding for head start by more than one million dollars.
