A Danville man has been sentenced to 35- years in prison for his role in the
murder of a Winn Dixie store manager.
19- year- old Kenneth Hudson pled guilty to murder and robbery for the
shooting of Oliver Lee Everett, Junior.
Hudson was with Michael Lamont White the night White shot Everett and stole
White pled guilty to murder, robbery and weapons violations last month and
was sentenced to life in prison.
Stalled talks between Goodyear and its employees' union could put the brakes
on plans to hire 400 new workers at its Danville tire plant.
Goodyear and the United Steel Workers Local 831 can't seem to agree on the
conditions necessary for the plant to go to a 24 hour schedule.
Neither side would give specifics on what's holding up the deal.
Goodyear says it would put more people on its assembly line if it becomes a

Goodyear wants to go 24-hours to meet demand for its truck tires.
Efforts to improve Virginia's economic development image have apparently
A magazine that tracks where companies relocate and why they go there says
Virginia has become a prime place to move to.
This month's issue of "Plant Sites and Parks" asked 534 executives to rank
the best states for business relocation.
Virginia came in fifth.
But the Commonwealth does have two sizeable competitors just south of the
North Carolina topped the list. Tennessee was second.
The RADVA Corporation of Radford is getting out of the business of MAKING
its patented building panels.
It's a move that will allow the company to concentrate more on its overseas
business, something that's proving beneficial to the local economy.

production line in Radford.
The company has sold 80 percent of its panel-making subsidiary,
Thermastructure, Limited, to Ecological Systems of North Carolina.
Thermastructure will have exclusive license to manufacture and market the
panels in MOST of the U.S.
RADVA will continue building the machines that make the panels for its

Meanwhile, RADVA's business is expanding in other UN-expected areas.
It's panel homes, such as these going up in Christiansburg, are a big hit in
Russia and Argentina.
Now people in those countries want other Western home-building supplies such
as doors and sheet brick.
RADVA is buying them up from local companies to meet the demand.

Virginia Tech has placed its search for a new Dean of the College of
Education on hold pending some possible streamlining moves.
President Paul Torgersen is meeting with faculty to outline the
University spokesman Dave Nutter says any changes would be administrative,
and would NOT affect programs or faculty positions.
Nutter says its possible the programs could be offered through a SCHOOL,
rather than COLLEGE of Education when interim Dean Wayne Worner retires at the
end of the year.
That would eliminate the need for a dean and administrative staff.
A couple from Honolulu signed in this week as the 600 Millionth visitors to
the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Sara and Domar (DOE-mar) Knudson (kah-NOOD-son) were honored by Virginia
tourism and park officials today.
