The prosecution asked the court to delay the trial of two Roanoke Sheriff's
deputies charged with the sexual assault of a Roanoke woman.
Special Prosecutor Bob Bushnell told the court this morning that the alleged
victim is expecting twins and she believes one of the accused is the father.
Ronlyn Eaton claims the two deputies, David Keith Bell and Larry Dean
Neighbors, sexually assaulted her after she asked them for a ride home from a
The two were in court this morning for a preliminary hearing.
Their attorneys wanted the prosecution to disclose Eaton's sexual history.

The defense will also have access to the victim's prior criminal convictions

Bell is accused of sodomy and Neighbors is accused of rape and sodomy.
Both worked as guards in the Roanoke City Jail and are on administrative

By that time, the prosecution hopes to have results of a paternity test.

Arizona's governor may now call out the National Guard to reopen the park.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Roanoke River Parkway is another victim of
the budget stalemate in Washington.
The road will give travellers on the Blue Ridge Parkway direct access to
Virginia's Explore Park.
Officials had planned to celebrate the start of construction on Monday, but
because of the budget impasse, Congressman Bob Goodlatte will be unable to
Explore Director Rupert Cutler says he expects to reschedule the ceremony
for a day in early December.

But John Metzger says he did not commit a crime.
He says he's just guilty of irreconcilable differences with other parole
board members, and to offending two female members with an "off-color" joke.

It's day two in the money laundering trial of former Amherst mayor Roger
Authorities say Beidler helped convicted drug dealer Wendell Wood hide 100-
thousand dollars in drug and gambling profits.
Beidler says he never knew the money he was investing for Wood in a real
estate development came from illegal sources.
But investigators say Beidler divided the money into amounts smaller than
10- thousand dollars to avoid having to report the transactions.
Wythe County has agreed to lock out prisons for good.

The Consumer Product Safety Commisison has issued a recall for children's
bed rails made by the company "Safety First."
The company says it's receved more than 50 reports of children getting hurt
when they fell out of bed because the supports on the Model 177 rail separated.
It's offering to replace the questionable rails with a newer model.
The government says more than 191-thousand of the problem rails were sold
nationwide between January 19-94 and June 19-95.
