18-year-old Harden Ward turned himself in to authorities in Prince George's
County, Maryland this morning.

murder of 25-year-old Orbin Smith.
Smith was shot to death in his home last month.
Michael Ward is still at large.
Both are from Prince George County's.

State prison officials say a 24-year-old man died after doing pushups
during his FIRST day at Virginia's boot camp for young criminals.
Ronell Mason of Bluefield DIED September 18th at the Southampton Intensive
Treatment Center.
An autopsy determined the cause of death was an IRREGUALR heart rhythm, and
further tests determined that Mason had Sickle cell anemia.
The disease can be complicated by RIGOROUS, physical exercise and can even
lead to death.
It is NOT clear whether Mason had been diagnosed with sickle cell anemia
BEFORE he entered the boot camp.

A Lexington police officer is accused of assaulting a woman while arresting
her.
Shelby Katz of Lexington filed a warrant against Officer Mark Ramos--
charging him with assault and battery.
According to a news release, the alleged attack occurred October 28th.
Ramos is suspended with pay while state police investigate.
The Lexington Police Department says it won't comment until the
investigation is complete.

A Northwest Roanoke woman accused of abduction says she has nothing to say
in court until she gets a lawyer.

31- year- old Mitzi Jean Horton is charged with abducting an elderly man,
and with violating parole.

Saturday, police found 83- year- old Vernon (LOFF-in) Laughon locked inside
the trunk of his car-- while Horton was in the driver's seat.
The man told police he only remembers being choked, and then waking up in
the trunk.
Horton has been convicted in the past of numerous burglary and larceny
charges.
A preliminary hearing is set for December 19.

62- year- old Ann Dickens will NOT face ANY jail time after she admitted in
court that she stole HUNDREDS of pieces mail.

possession of stolen mail.
She agreed to the maximum sentence-- of five years--

Dickens has been accused of stealing mail TWICE before but was NEVER
convicted.
In August, inspectors found 460 pieces of UN-opened mail stacked in her
apartment in Old Southwest Roanoke.

Deer hunters are heading for the woods of Western Virginia now that general
firearms season is open.
Eleven people have been injured since muzzle- loaders opened fire in early
November.
But with the start of the new season, authorities are hoping hunters will
blaze the trail with safety.
