But police say before he could drive away...a dye pack of red ink placed inside the bag of money apparently went off. ((CMDR. THE VEHICLE WAS POSSIBLY PARKED OVER ON OLD BOONSBORO ROAD, WHICH THE SUSPECT WOULD HAVE HAD TO RUN ACROSS BOONSBORO ROAD TOWARDS OLD BOONSBORO ROAD, AND I THINK THE DYE PACK PROBABLY EXPLODED BEFORE HE GOT TO HIS VEHICLE. AND HE SHOULD HAVE MAYBE RED DYE ALL OVER HIM AND I'M SURE SOME WOULD RUB OFF INSIDE THE VEHICLE.))
An hour later, police got a tip the vehicle had been abandoned behind this home off Walnut Hollow Road in Bedford County.
A careful search of the grounds turned up nothing, and a police tracking dog was unable to pinpoint the whereabouts of the bank robber.
Residents in the nearby Meadow Ridge subdivision had a few tense moments as authorities cordoned off the area for the search which ended at dusk with no success.
They are "not" releasing the name of the man they believe is responsible.

The community has seen its share of crime-- most recently a fatal shooting last weekend during a drug deal.
