A tractor trailer flipped on Interstate- 81 yesterday closing the highway
for more than eight hours.

It happened about two in the afternoon near the 5-81 interchange.
The truck ended up sandwiched between the guardrails of a bridge.
The passenger in the truck, 53- year- old David Morris, was saved by good
samaritans as they dragged him to safety just before the truck burst into
flames.
Morris was flown by Life Guard 10 to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he is in
serious condition.
The driver, 45- year- old Luke Sain, suffered minor injuries and is charged
with reckless driving.
Both men are from North Carolina.

for September.
The Virginia Employment Commission says for the second straight month, the
Roanoke area recorded the best annual job growth in the state.

Greater Lynchburg's workforce grew by 3- point- 1 percent.
It added jobs in education.
Danville is the state's only metro area that LOST jobs in September.

The man airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital has been identified as

He's in serious condition.

a U-S Marine accused of raping a 12-year old girl.

At the trial's opening session in November, Navy Seaman Marcus Gill pleaded
guilty to raping the girl.
Two Marines, Kendrick Ledet (leh-DEHT') and Rodrico Harp, admitted they
helped plan and carry out the attack.
Prosecutors say all three raped the girl.

It is feared a fire on Campbell Avenue in Roanoke last night was
intentionally set.

far.
Neighbors say they are afraid someone is setting fire to abandoned houses
in the area.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.

school history.
Yesterday, the Sugar Bowl officially invited the Hokies to play the
University of Texas on New Years Eve in the Superdome.
