Blacksburg police say three men carjacked a Virginia Tech student last night because their own car ran out of gas and they had no money.
But authorities say the 22 year- old student was murdered out of PURE MEAN-NESS.

Authorities say Mark Lilly and another suspect, Gary Wayne Barker have given corroborating statements pointing to Lilly's older brother, Ben Lilly as the triggerman.
They allegedly told police the plan was to let DeFilippis go, but that Ben, who was paroled from prison in July, didn't want the victim to identify him.

Giles County authorities later arrested the trio and charged them with armed robbery after they allegedly held up two convenience stores.
Montgomery County investigators have secured warrants for capital murder, abduction, robbery and carjacking. suBen Lilly was paroled after serving three years out of a five- year sentence for malicious wounding, grand larceny and several other convictions.
All three men have a number of previous convictions.
And each was free on bond for pending charges in Montgomery County ranging from burglary to grand larceny.

An apartment fire in downtown Lynchburg sent one man to the hospital earlier this evening.

The blaze broke out at the Virginia apartments around 7:30 p.m.
Authorities say the fire started in a sofa in a second- floor apartment and quickly filled the room with smoke.
The resident of the apartment, whose name has not been released, was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.
He reportedly was suffering from smoke inhalation.
Residents spent a chilly half hour outside before they could re- enter the building.

A husband and wife are dead following an automoble accident tonight in Bedford County.
Police say the accident happened on Route 221 in the county when 75- year old Willie Edgar Doss apparently pulled out of a private driveway into the path of another car.
Doss and his 69 year old wife Ruth W. Doss were killed. A passenger in their car, Frances Wright, was admitted to Lynchburg General Hospital. No word yet on her condition.
The driver of the other car Ramona M.Williams was treated and released from the hospital.
The accident is still under investigation.

In one other college football note tonight, Georgia coach Ray Goff has been questioned about NCAA violations in the school's football program. Officials from the governing body met with Goff for more than two hours on the Georgia campus today.
The probe centers around whether Georgia committed major violations while recruiting athletes from the state of Florida from 1992 to the present.
