A winter storm has brought a blanket of snow and a flurry of minor
accidents to western Virginia.
The State Transportation Department is recommending snow tires or chains
for motorists who have to drive.
But they are also urging drivers to stay off the roads if they can.

Western Virginia received a strong dose of winter weather overnight.
The storm left several inches of snow throughout the region closing many
schools and businesses.
And the aftermath promises to make travel difficult for most of the day.

Winter worked its magic on the Roanoke Valley overnight, but the blanket of
snow was a nightmare for drivers who were caught on the highway.
While the State Transportation Department is clearing major roads, the snow
and ice will make driving difficult for some time.
