A man was shot to death tonight while driving down route 103 in Patrick County. Investigators say at least six other vehciles were hit by gunfire in the same spot. No one else was hurt.
Tonight a 17- year- old male is in custody.

The sheriff's department is not releasing the name of the victim until the family is notified.

The suspect's name is not being released because he's a minor.

While the football field is dry under the tarp, nearby Salem Memorial Baseball stadium is still covered with snow, and while that normally isn't a problem this time of year, It is this weekend. More than 500 youngsters were scheduled to participate in a youth education through sports football clinic tomorrow on the diamond. Now they'll have to play indoors. WE HAD AN ALTERNATE SITE AS THE CIVIC CENTER, SO WE'RE GOING AHEAD AND MAKING THE DECISION TO MOVE IT INDOORS. WE WANT TO GIVE THE KIDS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR THIS CLINIC, AND I FEEL THE CIVIC CENTER WILL DO THIS FOR THEM. The civic center was full of excitement this afternoon as WDBJ hosted the 3rd annual friday football extra championship luncheon for this year's Stagg bowl participants. Players from both Rowan and Wisconsin La Crosse spent a few moments in the spotlight, while former CBS football Analyst Tom Brookshier offered those in attendance a couple of words of wisdom. And a few anecdotes from his 30 years of broadcasting. I REMEMBER ONE TIME WE OPENED UP BEFORE A GAME AT TEXAS STADIUM, IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN ONE OF THOSE WASHINGTON GAMES. AND WE WERE ON THE FLOOR OF THE STADIUM, GETTING READY TO DO A LIVE SHOT AND THEN GO UPSTAIRS. PAT WAS SORT OF ADJUSTING HIS TROUSERS AND I HAD UNZIPPED MY FLY AND PULLED MY SHIRT DOWN INSIDE SO IT LOOKS LIKE I HADN'T SLEPT IN MY SHIRT RIGHT? AND I LOOKED DOWN AND SAID ARE WE ON YET AND HE SAID YOU HAVE BEEN FOR 20 SECONDS. WE STRAIGHTENED UP AND SAID, WELCOME TO TEXAS STADIUM YOU KNOW. But neither school has let its pants or its guard down this week, but because the practice fields over at Salem high School are still completely frozen, each school had to practice here on the asphalt parking lot of the Salem Civic Center.
