Acting on the wishes of incumbent John Warner, the state Republican Party's governing board has agreed to hold a primary election in next year's Senate race.
On a voice vote, the 80 members of the G-O-P State Central Committee agreed to hold the primary.
Another option was going to court to challenge the state law that gives Warner the right to select the nomination method.
But NO one introduced that motion.
Some Republicans say they prefer a convention because it would ensure that only Republicans -- instead of all registered voters -- would be the ones to select the nominee.
Warner challenger JIM MILLER is considered having a better chance at a convention.
