Temperatures are below freezing all the way down to the Gulf Coast, and that
includes the commonwealth.

Fire officials say the blaze apparently started in an upstairs bedroom.

has been courted by the Democratic party. She has ruled out becoming a
democrat.
Her decision has big implications because the November elections left the
Senate deadlocked with 20 Republicans and 20 Democrats.

The Environmental Protection Agency is urging Virginia and North Carolina to
settle their dispute over the Lake Gaston pipeline.
The pipeline would transport water from the lake to Virginia Beach.
An E-P-A official says the two sides can settle now -- or after a court
fight.

North Carolina officials have been fighting the planned 76-mile pipeline for
more than a decade.
They claim it would take up to 60- million gallons of water a day from the
lake and harm North Carolina's environment.
Virginia Beach has won all the necessary federal permits to build the
pipeline.
But North Carolina is continuing to oppose the project in court.

A fire in Chatham gutted a one story home Saturday.
It happened on route 7-18 at about 1-30 in the afternoon.
No one was home during the fire, but two dogs were killed in the blaze.
Fire Chief Worsham believes that the fire started in a wood stove.

And in Salem last night, fire destroyed a garage behind the Virginia Lift
Truck Company.
The building was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
The garage, which is not owned by the Virginia Lift Company, was rented out
for storage.
The fire is still under investigation.
