tonight--as the the sheriff's department apprehended a man who was allegedly
firing an assault rifle.
Deputies responded to a domestic call around four this afternoon.

Police have re-captured the two men who escaped from the Lynchburg City Jail
last night.
John Davis and Delmer Ray Salyer (SAUL-yer) were apprehended this morning.

Lynchburg Sheriff Lawrence Simpson said earlier this evening that the
Lynchburg City Police Department re-captured the men this morning.
They were found on Old Forest Road near a convenience store.
Last night a guard discovered the two men missing at head count.

Davis is in jail on drug charges.
Salyer (SAUL-yer) is serving time for violating probation.

Rescue personnel were busy working a vehicle accident tonight in Roanoke.
It happened around seven o'clock on route 2-20 in front of Wal-Mart.
The Jaws of Life had to be used to cut a woman from her car.
Officials at the scene say the woman's car was struck by another car when it
crossed the median.
Police have not released any other information.

At the root of the impasse: deadlocked negotiations on balancing
the budget.
The shutdown not only hurts government employees.

price.
