John Davis and Delmer Ray Salyer (SAUL-yer) escaped from the Lynchburg City
Jail last night.
Lynchburg Sheriff Lawrence Simpson said earlier this evening that the
Lynchburg City Police Department re-captured the men this morning.
They were found on Old Forest Road near a convenience store.
Last night a guard discovered the two men missing at head count.
They got away by going over the back wall.

The Peaks of Otter Lodge is privately owned, but it's on government land.
That's why owners had to close during the last shutdown.
That weekend the lodge was fully booked.

A vehicle accident near Iron Gate this afternoon sent two people to the
It happened on route 2-20 at about two o'clock.
Timothy Kidd of Vinton was travelling south when he ran into the northbound
He struck a vehicle driven by Brenda Lugar of Covington.
Kidd told state police he thought his child was choking in the backseat.
Before he realized it, he had crossed over into the other lane.
Both the drivers were taken to Alleghany Regional Hospital where they were
treated and released.

Lieutenant Governor Don Beyer (BUYER) and supporters for the disabled marked
a big milestone this week in southwest Virginia.
On Tuesday, they celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act.
The legislation passed by Congress means that special education and related
services are provided to disabled children without charge in America's public

Speakers at the event pointed out that a number of complex issues still lie
ahead for disabled students.
Experts say many of the children still don't go on to college.
They also worry that some of the funding for these students may be in
jeopardy because of the budget cuts in Washington.
Junior R-O-T-C may conjure up images of young soldiers preparing for a
career in the military.
But it's a little more than that.
At Halifax County High School, instilling leadership and pride in ones
community is what the R-O-T-C is all about.
