A tense evening in the woods of Franklin County ended without injury last night--as the the sheriff's department apprehended a man who was allegedly firing an assault rifle.
It started when deputies responded to a domestic call yesterday afternoon.

((Government workers may be the ones getting furloughed, but employees at the Peaks of Otter Lodge and Restaurant say it's people like them who pay the price. For now the Lodge and Restaurant remain open.
But workers here are worried they'll be shut down again.

A man arrested after a high-speed chase last week in Wythe County that ended in a collision with a tractor-trailer now faces a voluntary manslaughter charge.
State police charged 21-year-old Dale Provost of New York with numerous driving offenses after Tuesday's chase and crash.
They added the manslaughter charge yesterday.
That's when Provost's passenger, 17-year-old Jamie Clay of New York, died at of injuries from the crash.
