An investigation of the Botetourt County sheriff is on the desk of Lynchburg's Commonwealth Attorney.
State Police investigated Reed Kelly after he was accused of beating a jail inmate.
Now, Bill Petty must determine IF charges will be filed.

In October, Kelly received a letter from inmate Jason Jones.
In the letter, Jones described in graphic detail, how he was going to kill the sheriff, and his family.
The prisoner says he was beaten and choked by Kelly after he read the note.

He told News- 7 he's happy that a non- partisan party is looking into the matter.

Three teenagers driving an improperly registered car led Lynchburg police on a short chase yesterday before crashing into a house.

It happened when an officer tried to stop the teens on Early Street around noon.
The juveniles jumped out of the car, which then rolled down a hill and into this house at 797 Early Street.
A woman inside the home was not injured in the accident.
Two of the teens were apprehended a short time later, but were released to their parents.
Charges against the driver of the car are pending.

In another bizarre vehicle accident-- The driver of a stolen van went off the deep end--literally--in Radford.
It took a crane to lift the vehicle out of the city pool at Bissett Park.
Police say the driver evidently floored the accelerator and went crashing through the fence and into the pool.
Damages to the fence are estimated at three thousand dollars.
Police say the crane lift caused most of the damage to the van.
The vehicle was stolen from Roanoke County.
No one was in the van when police arrived-- so far no arrests have been made.

Occidental Chemical Company has agreed to pay l29 MILLION dollars to clean up the infamous Toxic Waste dumps at Love Canal.

The settlement repays the government for putting an earthen lid over the neighborhood.
18 years ago it was discovered that a chemical plant buried nearly 22-thousand tons of toxic waste in the old Love Canal during and after World War Two.
Hundreds of families had to be evacuated from the area.
The dispute remains as to whether Love Canal is a safe place to live.

A Roanoke judge has thrown out a 100-thousand dollar award to a woman for trauma she says she suffered after her apartment manager allegedly stomped a nest of baby birds to death.
Last month a jury ordered Judy Woody and South Roanoke Aparment Village to pay damages to Ruby Campagna.
Campagna says Woody knocked a nest of wrens from her patio and crushed the birds to death.
Circuit Court judge Richard Pattisall threw out the damage award and ordered a new trial to determine how much Campagna should get for her psychiatric bills as well as pain and suffering.

Heading off a threatened court challenge, the White House has agreed to surrender disputed Whitewater notes.

The White House says an aide's notes on a 19-93 Whitewater meeting will be turned over to investigators in the next day or so.
President Clinton says there's nothing damaging in them.
The White House retains future claims of attorney-client privilege in Whitewater.

A State Police investigation involving the Botetourt County sheriff will be examined by Lynchburg's Commonwealth Attorney.
According to circuit court documents in Fincastle, Sheriff Reed Kelly was investigated after accusations surfaced of a jail beating.

Back in October, Kelly received a letter from inmate Jason Joseph Jones.
In that letter, the prisoner gave detailed plans on how he would kill the sheriff's family.
Jones claims that after Kelly read the note, the sheriff choked and beat him.
Kelly told News- 7 that the accusations are politically motivated, and he's glad a non- partisan third- party is looking into the matter.

Occidental Development had planned to break ground on the Deer Cross complex over the summer.
But the attorney for the company says its attention was diverted by other projects in Richmond and Indiana.
Occidental Development now plans to have a groundbreaking in the spring.
When it's complete, Deer Cross will have 264 units along Colonial Avenue.

Beverly Hills police say actor Jimmy Stewart was taken away by ambulance last night after falling in his home.
A witness says Stewart's head was wrapped when he was placed in the ambulance. There's no word on the 87-year-old actor's condition.
