A Roanoke man is facing a murder charge in the death of his estranged wife.
Yesterday, police arrested 36- year- old Bryant Richard Ross.

The body of 34-year-old Vickie Ross was found Saturday in the back seat of her car on Peach Tree Drive in Roanoke.

Police say she was apparently shot in the back of the head.
Investigators had been looking for Vickie Ross since Friday night after a friend reported her missing.
The friend also told police she noticed Bryant Ross driving away from Vickie's home at a high rate of speed.

Police say they have not recovered the gun.
Ross is being held in the Roanoke City jail without bond.

A 14-year old Wytheville boy was killed yesterday when he was accidental shot by a friend.
Police say it happened in the 200 block of Ridge Street.
They say the other boy was also fourteen.
They say one of the boys was handling a 22- caliber rifle when he shot his friend in the arm and chest.
The injured youth was taken to Wythe County Hospital where he later died.
Police say NO charges are pending.

It was sweet victory in the Big Easy for the Hokies.
Virginia Tech was crowned Sugar Bowl champ after defeating Texas 28 to 10.

Authorities say 37- year- old James Garfield Nash was at a party on Route 1 in Buena Vista early yesterday morning when he was shot and killed.
Robert Scott Lynn of Buena Vista has been charged with the murder.

A two mile stretch of the Jackson River will remain open to public.
The Westvaco Corporation unsuccessfully requested to close the river for safety reasons.

Westvaco filed the request two years ago.
The company said the chemical tanks, high-pressure steam and chemical pipes on the river are dangerous for public boating.
However, the Corps of Engineers sided with residents who argued against the closing in a March 19-94 public hearing.
The river will remain open for recreational use.

Halifax County records the area's first homicide of 19-96.
Authorities are investigating the the shootig death of a teenager.
17-year-old Jason Lamont Chandler of Clover was found dead at the Super-8 Motel in Riverdale at about one this morning.
He later died at the hospital.
Authorities believe the shooting may have been drug related.

And authorities in Henry County say a fight between a 15-year-old and his girlfriend resulted in the fatal shooting of the boy's stepfather.
The Sheriff's Department says 30-year-old James Nelson Marshall Junior was shot and killed at his residence in Fielddale at about ten o'clock last night.
His stepson has been charged with second degree murder in the shooting.
He is also charged with malicious wounding in the shooting of his girlfriend, 19-year-old Lakeshia Massey of Martinsville.
She was released from the hospital after being treated for minor gunshot wound.
