Police arrested 36- year- old Bryant Richard Ross yesterday.

The body of 34-year-old Vickie Ross was found Saturday in the back seat of her car on Peach Tree Drive in Roanoke.

Police say she was apparently shot in the back of the head.
Investigators had been looking for Vickie Ross since Friday night after a friend reported her missing.
The friend also told police she noticed Bryant Ross driving away from Vickie's home at a high rate of speed.

Rockbridge County has witnessed its second murder in a week.
Authorities say 37- year- old James Garfield Nash was at a party on Route 1 in Buena Vista early yesterday morning when he was shot and killed.
Robert Scott Lynn of Buena Vista has been charged with the murder.

Just last Sunday, 24- year- old Christopher Wayne Higgins was shot

In Wytheville, a 14-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his friend with a rifle yesterday.
It happened in the 200 block of Ridge Street.
Police say the other boy was also fourteen.
They say one of the boys was handling a 22- caliber rifle when he shot his friend in the arm and chest.
The injured youth was taken to Wythe County Hospital where he later died.
Police say NO charges are pending.

It was the pontiff's fist public appearance since he had to break off his Christmas Day blessing due to illness.

The Westvaco Corporation unsuccessfully requested to close the river for safety reasons.

The company said the chemical tanks, high-pressure steam and chemical pipes on the river are dangerous for public boating.
However, the Corps of Engineers sided with residents who argued against the closing in a March 19-94 public hearing.

A Brosville- Cascade Fire Truck and a 1990 Mercury were involved in the crash yesterday at the intersection of Route 58 West and 6-22.
Traffic was tied up in both directions as rescue teams from Danville, Axton and Brosville worked the accident.
One fireman was taken to the hospital, his condition is not known.
A passenger in the Mercury is reportedly in serious condition.
Her elderly husband was driving the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.
He's been identified as DeRoy Clay of Danville.
An 11- year- old boy was also in the car and suffered broken bones.

The reason for the time change is to bring the world's clock into synch with the earth's rotation.
The earth's rotation slows down ever so slightly each year so the extra "leap second" is added every year or year-and-a-half to keep the world's most accurate clocks accurate.
