34- year old Walter Correll, Junior has spent almost ten years on death row.
Tonight, he's scheduled to die by lethal injection.
Ellen Qualls is in our Richmond newsroom with the latest.
Governor Allen ....
Correll's conviction was actually thrown out briefly in the summer of 1994.
Federal Judge James Turk wrote then that he "could NOT imagine a more
deliberate and egregious violation" of the right to legal counsel than in

He had confessed three times to Sheriff's investigators without the benefit

But the federal courts since have vacated Turk's decision and have upheld
the third confession.
Correll admitted to having abducted Charles W. Bousman in Bousman's own car.
He strangled Bousman to the point of unconsciousness and drove him to the
Bay Roc Marina area of Smith Mountain Lake.
There he and an accomplice, Richard Reynolds, stabbed Bousman to death with
a knife they found in his car.))
The motive in this case was believed to be homophobia.
Apparently, Correll and his friends were looking for trouble the night they
stopped Charles Bousman in Roanoke.

Questions: Are Correll's attorneys claiming innocence?
They argued that his two accomplices might have been more responsible for
Bousman's death, and that Correll was just the fall guy.
A Henry County boy is dead after apparently running in front of a car while
waiting for the school bus.

State police say the driver who struck eight- year old Kyle Helton was taken
to the hospital.

The boy suffered head trauma, a broken leg and possible internal injuries.
State police don't expect to file any charges against the driver, 57- year
old Pauline Woodall of Axton.

Traces of alcohol were found in the body of a pilot who flew an American
Airlines Jet into a Colombian mountain.

But authorities say that doesn't mean the pilot had been drinking or was
The alcohol may have been produced after death by blunt trauma, which
triggers a chemical process that produces alcohol.
More testing will be done to determine if the pilot was drinking.
The crash killed 160 people December 20th.
All charges have been dropped against one of two suspects in a Henry County
18- year old Harden Ward surrendered to Maryland police back in November.
He was a suspect in the October fatal shooting of 25- year old Orbin Smith.
Ward was released this afternoon after a preliminary hearing.
Witnesses who testified could not place Ward at the scene because both
suspects were wearing masks.
But Ward's 24- year old brother, Michael, is still charged in the crime.
The owner of Omni Travel of Blacksburg is considering legal action against
a charter company she says left 500 Hokie fans stranded in New Orleans.
Patty (COO-lee) Cowley says weather delayed the first flights home from the
Sugar Bowl, then she says AV-Atlantic jerked her and her customers around while
it fulfilled other flight commitments.

The Wilder name has been cleared.
That's Eunice Wilder -- the ex- wife of former Governor Doug Wilder.
Mrs. Wilder is the Richmond City Treasurer.
Her office was under investigation by the state Attorney General's office,
after a former employee alleged she'd been paying her daughter Lynn for more
hours than she worked.
At the time, the former Governor's daughter was a full-time employee.
The Attorney General's office says there was insufficient evidence to
warrant further investigation.
Bedford County's landed a BIG industrial prospect.
Barr Laboratories of Pomona (puh-MOAN-uh) New York says it will open a
manufacturing facility in the Forest area early next year.

Actor Mark Harmon is being called a hero for his leading role rescuing
two teens from a burning car.
Police say the boys were speeding when they crashed into a tree and the
car burst into flames.
Harmon's wife, Pam Dawber got to the car first.
She then called for her husband to grab a sledgehammer.
Harmon broke through the window and pulled the teens out.

In the coming months, the D- Day Memorial Foundation will launch a major

Jean, two executives were OFFICIALLY brought on board this afternoon to
spear-head the Bedford project.
They are Richard Burrow and Carl Manfield.
Though the memorial is in its "preliminary design phase," officials will
