Police say the man found dead Tuesday in a local auto shop was beaten to

A Henry County boy is in critical condition after being STRUCK by a car this
Eight-year-old Kyle Helton was waiting for the school bus when he was hit.
The accident happened at about 7:30 on Route 57, near Martinsville.
State police say the driver who struck the child was too upset to talk and
was taken to the hospital.
But they did talk to a witness.

Helton was taken to a Martinsville hospital, and later transported to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Initial Colombian forensic tests detect alcohol in the remains of the pilot
whose plane crashed into a mountain killing 160 people December 20th.
Captain Nicholas Tafuri was a pilot with American Airlines for 26 years.
The airline says the tests do NOT indicate whether the pilot had been
drinking, or IF the alcohol was produced naturally as his body decayed.
The Federal Aviation Administration is offering Colombia help in conducting
Now that an autopsy has determined that a man found dead in a Roanoke
County garage had been BEATEN to death -- police are asking other questions.

Time is running out for a Roanoke man convicted of murder.
Walter Correll Junior is scheduled to be EXECUTED tonight - now he's asking
the Governor for clemency.
The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday REFUSED to block the execution of Correll.
His lawyers argued his confession was tainted because he did not get a
lawyer before he was questioned.
Correll is sentenced to die for the August 1985 slaying of Charles
Police say Correll kidnapped Bousman from Roanoke, choked him until he
passed out, stuffed him into the trunk of a car and drove him to Smith Mountain
There, police say Correll stabbed him to death.

Two Blacksburg police officers have been CLEARED by the U-S attorney of ANY
wrongdoing in the shooting of a man armed with a B-B gun in a drugstore.
Maurice Taylor was shot 12 times after he pulled the weapon, which
authorities said looked like a semiautomatic handgun.
Blacksburg police were trying to arrest him for failure to appear at a
A state police investigation earlier CLEARED the officers of any wrongdoing.
The shooting sparked community debate, especially about the NUMBER of shots
