An eight-year old Henry County has died from injuries he received yesterday when he was hit by a car.

Police say Kyle Helton was waiting for his school bus yesterday morning along route 57 when he ran in front of a car.
He suffered head trauma, a broken leg and possible internal injuries.
Helton was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital but doctors could not save him.
Authorities don't expect to file any charges against the driver, 57- year old Pauline Woodall of Axton.

The 52nd anniversary of the Normandy invasion is still several months away, but Southwest Virginia is getting a head start with its plans aimed at making sure the nation never forgets D-Day.

The National D- Day Memorial Foundation FORMALLY introduced two new members yesterday, executive director Richard Burrow and development consultant Carl Manfield.
Thirty acres of land in Bedford have already been set aside for the memorial.
Officials hope the project will also feature a visitor's center and a small museum.

A truck hit a car in Lynchburg killing a woman.

The accident happened yesterday. Police say the driver of the truck, 19- year- old Andrew Viar the third of Evington apparently ran a red light.
The victim's identity is not being released until her family is notified.
Viar was uninjured in the collision.
No charges have been filed at this time.

Halifax County authorities are still on the lookout for three men who wounded a store clerk yesterday during a hold-up.
Authorities say the suspects hit a female clerk in the head with a pistol while robbing Used Furniture.
She was knocked unconscious after opening the store safe.
Authorities say all three robbers were wearing masks.
Officials are not disclosing how much money was taken.
The store clerk was not seriously injured.

Last night Walter Correll became the 30th inmate to be executed in Virginia since the death penalty was reinstated 20 years ago.

Correll died by lethal injection at 9:13 p-m at the Greensville Correctional Center in Southside Virginia.
He made no final statement.
Governor Allen denied an appeal for clemency, and the U-S Supreme Court had rejected Correll's final appeal Wednesday.
Correll was convicted of capital murder in the abduction, robbery, and stabbing death of Charles Bousman Junior in 19-85.

The City of Richmond is still trying to decide on just the right spot for the statue honoring tennis start Arthur Ashe.

The city's Mayor is now suggesting the statue be built in a future black sports hall of fame in downtown Richmond.
Ashe proposed the hall of fame before he died of AIDS in 19-93.
Since then, Richmond has been wrangling over where to put a memorial statue.

A local sculptor's statue received preliminary approval for a site on Monument Avenue.
But the issue of what and where was blown open again this week after Ashe's widow objected to that site.
