It's been around for nearly two decades but most women and many
physicians are unfamiliar with the morning after pill--also known as
emergency contraception.
It uses the hormones found in the common birth control pill in a different
way.
Two birth control pills are given within 72 hours after unprotected
intercourse where a woman is concerned she might get pregnant...followed by
another 2 pills 12 hours later. So how does it work?

OUT Q=unprotected sex.
In fact it is estimated that using emergency contraception can prevent
75 percent of pregnancies that would otherwise occur.
The two major side effects of the morning after pill are nausea and vomiting
which can last a day or two.
So why don't more woman know about the morning after pill?
One reason it that many doctors prescribe the morning after pill only if a
woman asks for it.
Another reason is that it is often confused with the so called "French
Abortion Pill" or RU486.
But RU486 and the morning after pill are by no means the same.
Here's the difference of the two. RU486 is in test phases in the U.S. and is
not widely available.
The morning after pill is widely available as it is simply the common birth
control pill.
Currently RU486 is being studied for use in women who already know they are
pregnant.
A woman may not actually be pregnant but fearful she is to take the morning
after pill --which must be given within 72 hours of intercourse.
Though the morning after pill is safe and is used by some doctors...birth
control pills have never been approved by the FDA for use as emergency
contraceptives.
